Demonstrate component control.
00:05
After completing this video,
00:06
you'll be able to
00:07
use isolate to focus attention on a component,
00:10
control component opacity,
00:12
and use component color swatch and color cycling.
00:18
To get started in Fusion,
00:19
let's open the supply dataset Utility knife.
00:22
F3D.
00:23
In this video,
00:24
we want to talk about working with multiple components in an
00:27
assembly and some of the visualization options that we have.
00:30
The first thing that we want to identify is that when we
00:33
activate a component in an assembly such as the blade cradle,
00:36
the opacity of all the other components by default is changed
00:41
so that we can focus our attention on just the component that's active.
00:44
This,
00:45
however,
00:45
doesn't prevent us from selecting the
00:47
other components during the assembly design.
00:50
In order to do this,
00:51
we can right click on the component and select isolate.
00:55
This will temporarily hide all of the other components in the design,
00:59
and we can right click and unisolate to bring them back.
01:02
When we go back to the top level,
01:04
the opacity of all the other components changes back.
01:07
Another thing that we can do is we can manually control the opacity of components.
01:12
For example,
01:13
the left side of this blade housing,
01:15
if we right click and go to opacity control,
01:18
we can set it to a lower opacity like 30%,
01:21
and this allows us to see into the design,
01:23
making it a bit easier to work on.
01:25
We can also right click,
01:27
go back and set it to 100%
01:29
to make sure that we can set it back to its original appearance.
01:33
Speaking of appearance,
01:34
another thing that we may want to do on
01:36
complex assemblies is enable our component color cycling.
01:40
Under the Inspect menu,
01:41
we can select Display component colors.
01:44
What this allows us to do is change the color of all the components in the assembly.
01:49
It'll show that color bar next to them in the browser on the left hand side
01:53
and above the features that were used to create it in the timeline at the bottom.
01:58
This can be helpful to identify common components.
02:02
If a component has a copy,
02:04
then you'll notice they're the same color,
02:06
both on the screen,
02:07
as well as in the browser and the timeline.
02:10
In some cases,
02:11
you may not want to change the appearance of your components on the screen.
02:15
In that case,
02:16
we can set the component colors back,
02:18
go to the gear icon in the bottom right,
02:21
and turn on the component color swatch.
02:23
This will use the same colors,
02:25
and on the left hand side,
02:26
you can see them identified in the browser,
02:28
as well as in the bottom in the timeline.
02:31
However,
02:31
the components don't change on the screen.
02:34
Let's go ahead and go back to the gear icon
02:36
and turn that back off,
02:38
go to inspect and go back to display component colors.
02:42
In some instances you may find that certain components have a
02:45
similar color and you may want to make a change.
02:48
For example,
02:49
grip 2.
02:50
I'm going to right click on grip 2 and select cycle component color.
02:54
This allows me to traverse through some predefined colors
02:58
and get to something that's a little bit further
02:60
away from a component it may be next to.
03:03
Again,
03:03
at any point in time,
03:04
we can toggle this on and off with shift and N
03:07
or by going back to the inspect and display component colors.
03:12
In addition to changing the opacity or activating certain components,
03:16
we can also manually hide
03:19
components or the bodies underneath those components.
03:22
In some cases,
03:23
you may find that certain bodies or components are hindering the design process,
03:27
and you may simply want to just hide them or show them.
03:31
We can also do this with a shortcut key by selecting them
03:34
and hitting V on the keyboard for visibility.
03:38
Keep in mind,
03:38
however,
03:39
that when we do this,
03:40
what we're actually doing is hiding the body
03:43
and not the entire component.
03:45
If you select a face that belongs to a body,
03:48
it will hide the body itself,
03:50
but if you double click on it,
03:51
it'll select the entire component and then it'll hide the component.
03:55
So keep in mind that you need to pay attention to what you're
03:58
selecting and that double clicking on a body will select the entire component
04:02
and V will allow you to hide and show that quickly.
04:06
There are plenty of other things that we can do to help with visualization,
04:10
but these are some of the basics that you should understand for the certification.
04:14
Make sure that you're familiar with changing the opacity of your components,
04:17
how to activate,
04:19
show and hide your components,
04:20
and also how to work with some of these other settings like the component colors.
04:25
Once you're done with that,
04:25
go ahead and save the design before moving on.
