By the end of this course,
00:12
you should be able to navigate through global and project pages,
00:15
know what you're looking at, and know how to filter and view that information.
00:19
Throughout this course, you'll see that pages can be modified,
00:22
whether that's through using the filter panel to filter down data,
00:27
adding or removing fields from a page, or changing the number of displayed results.
00:33
There are many ways that pages can be modified.
00:35
Any modifications that you make to a pages layout can
00:38
be saved so that every time that page is accessed,
00:41
the page loads with those layout modifications already applied.
00:45
There are a few things to know about modifying and saving pages.
00:49
In the right hand corner of any page, there is a page settings drop down menu.
00:54
If you make any modifications to a page,
00:56
a blue badge will appear beside the page settings
00:58
drop down that displays the word modified.
01:02
When you place your cursor over the badge,
01:04
the text will display "This page has unsafe layout changes, save page to commit them."
01:09
The warning is telling you that you've made changes
01:11
to the layout of the page you're currently on
01:14
and that you have not saved those changes. Until changes have been saved,
01:18
you are the only one who can see those changes.
01:21
If you want everyone to see a page in the same way
01:24
that you do, you will need to save the page. In
01:28
this example,
01:29
I'm making a few changes to the assets page in the demo animation project.
01:33
I'm adding a bunch of fields to the assets page,
01:36
resizing a few columns, and changing the grouping of the information.
01:40
Now this page looks really different from the way it started.
01:43
I have not saved the page. So what will another user see?
01:47
If I use the "use as another user function",
01:50
I can choose to see the page through the eyes of someone else.
01:54
It's worth mentioning here that the "use as another user" functionality is permitted
01:58
only for the admin permission group which I am currently assigned to.
02:03
I am going to use this function to show you what another user sees after I
02:07
make a bunch of layout changes to a page that I have not yet saved.
02:10
Let's select "use as another user", choose anyone and see the results.
02:16
Now we can see that the other user is seeing the page how it used to look,
02:20
not how I'm seeing it.
02:22
That's because they're seeing the page from its last
02:24
saved iteration and not from my unsaved layout changes.
02:28
If I save my changes, then other users will see the same thing that I do.
02:33
To save a page, you can do this from the page setting
02:36
menu by selecting save page.
02:38
If you don't save a page after you've made layout changes,
02:41
then once you log out the page will revert back to its last saved layout.
02:46
If at any time you want to revert a page back to its last saved layout,
02:50
you can do this from the page settings menu by selecting revert page.
02:55
Once a page has been reverted back to its last saved state or has been saved,
03:00
the modified badge will disappear.
03:02
Two important notes here about saving pages.
03:05
First is that when you're modifying and saving pages,
03:08
what you're doing is modifying the layout and look of a page.
03:13
The content or data about entities that appear on a page,
03:17
that data is universal across the site.
03:19
That means that if you erase data, it will be erased site wide. To demonstrate this,
03:25
I have two pages here: Shots, page one and shots, page two.
03:30
These pages are both displaying all of the
03:32
shots in this project but at different layouts.
03:35
On shots page one, I'm going to give a shot a description.
03:47
If I now open shots page two,
03:50
I'll now see the description on the shot has been updated
03:58
shots page two, I can add a description to another shot.
04:01
Now I can go to shots page one and see the description I just added.
04:10
Entity field information is universal across the site,
04:13
so if I now go and delete both of these descriptions,
04:18
go to shots page two,
04:23
the data has been deleted there too.
04:27
Both pages are pulling up data on the same entities so that data
04:30
is going to be consistent whether or not the pages look the same.
04:34
The second is that if you're making changes to a page that is shared,
04:37
you should be mindful of the other users on that page when saving any changes.
04:42
For example,
04:43
if I'm tracking layout tasks and I filter for a layout in the filter panel,
04:49
then go to save the page,
04:52
when my colleague opens the page and is looking for lighting tasks,
04:55
they will only see layout tasks.
04:57
That's because I saved the page with a filter for layout tasks turned on.
05:02
Every time my colleague wants to view lighting tasks,
05:04
they will now need to update the filter and remove layout tasks.
05:08
Instead it would be better if I turned off the layout filter before saving the page.
05:15
The information I might be looking for on a shared page may
05:18
not be the same information that my colleagues are looking for.
05:21
If I want to have a page with the filters turned on,
05:23
that always shows me the information that I want to see.
05:27
I can use save page as to save a copy of the page that I can then call layout schedule.
05:37
I can filter for a layout and I can save the page
05:46
in this project.
05:47
I can navigate to the layout schedule page, which is the page
05:50
I just made that filters for layout tasks, or I can navigate to
05:54
the task page that will show me all tasks on the project.
05:58
If you want to see the history of changes and modifications to a page,
06:01
check out page settings history.
06:04
Just like the "use as another user" functionality,
06:06
this menu item is only accessible to you. If you have admin permissions,
06:11
each time the page has been saved,
06:13
there will be a system summary, along
06:14
with other important information about each save,
06:17
including the date the page was updated and saved.
06:20
The person who saved the page with updates
06:22
and the system summary of page settings changes.
06:26
If you make layout changes to a page that you've saved,
06:29
but you want to go back to a past saved version, you can select a restore
06:33
reference point and choose restore to restore the pages layout.
06:37
Everything that happens in Flow Production Tracking creates
06:40
an event and all the events are logged.
06:43
Page settings, history,
06:44
events are a type of event logged in Flow Production Tracking.
06:48
These events are organized in the page settings
06:50
history panel and filterable through an event log entries page.
06:54
The retention period for events is controllable by an
06:57
admin through the advanced section and site preferences.
07:01
Now, I want to introduce you very quickly to design mode.
07:04
You can go to design mode by going to the page settings
07:07
menu and choosing design page.
07:09
We're not going to get into design mode too much.
07:12
But what I do want to make you aware of is that from here,
07:15
you can also make the same changes to a page that you can make outside of design mode,
07:20
like adding filters and saving the page or saving a copy of the page.
07:25
But you can also control who can access the page, add, and delete views on a page.
07:30
And you can also add pages to folders which we'll be discussing in the next module.
07:36
The key takeaways to remember as you continue learning about
07:39
pages are page look and layout changes are page specific.
07:44
Data changes are site wide.
07:46
Unsafe changes to a page layout are visible only to you.
07:51
A page with layout changes will display a blue
07:53
modified badge until changes are either saved or reverted.
07:58
If you want the changes to a page layout to stick and be visible to all users,
08:02
you must save the page.
