The data management in any infrastructure project is very important because infrastructure projects can be very large and complex with a lot of data.
00:13
So, data management is very important to keep drawing performance, to have dynamic design,
00:18
to also allow collaboration between your team members, and to have only one single source of design.
00:25
In Civil 3D, there are three different ways to manage the data.
00:29
The first one is what we call the external references, XREFs.
00:32
These XREFs already exist in AutoCAD, where you can attach, obviously, AutoCAD DWG format, images such as PNG, TIFF, JPEG, and also point cloud.
00:44
The second one, which will be the most important part for this presentation, are the data shortcut references for the Civil 3D objects.
00:53
And the last one, the tools made for the data management, such as Vault and BIM 360.
00:59
In any infrastructure project, it's always better before modeling to know what we want to achieve and what data we will need to use.
01:07
If you see my diagram, the first are the objects or the input data, where such surfaces, alignments, corridors, pipe network, etcetera.
01:16
We can use these objects, then, to create all design all 3D models.
01:21
And then, with our 3D models, we will do deliver 3D models or 2D plans, such as land views, cross-sections, all qualities.
01:30
And to organize all of this, obviously, we need to have data saturation.
01:35
Solutions, such as Vault and BIM 360, can give you a lot of benefits.
01:40
Here in the list, you can see we have the logical naming and phasing.
01:43
You have also a security backup to have access to all the versions of your models.
01:49
And you can also comply with the standards of BIM.
01:53
For the AutoCAD entities, we have the lines, polylines, circles, blocks, etcetera.
01:59
And for the Civil 3D objects, they are intelligent and dynamic in their interaction to each other,
02:05
such as the surfaces, alignments, corridors, pipe networks.
