Connecting drainage system objects

00:03

Once you have placed predefined storm drainage system

00:06

objects such as manholes into your surface model,

00:09

you can connect them using the connections tools in the toolbox

00:14

in this example,

00:15

all the manholes have been placed so it is time to connect them with pipes

00:20

to do so

00:21

in the toolbox,

00:22

expand the connections node and click pipe,

00:26

drag the pipe object to the model and hover the cursor over the first manhole,

00:32

notice that the cursor changes to a cross hair with arrows symbol.

00:37

Place the symbol over the first manhole

00:39

and when you see it snapped to the manhole,

00:41

click to place the start of the pipe.

00:44

It is important that connections are digitized from upstream to downstream,

00:49

following the normal direction of flow.

00:52

Now drag your cursor toward the second manhole

00:55

and notice that the cursor changes to a no symbol as you move it.

01:00

This indicates that the pipe end cannot be placed as long as the no symbol is showing.

01:06

However,

01:07

as soon as your cursor is over the next manhole,

01:10

it changes to the cross hair arrows. Again,

01:13

This indicates that the pipe length can be connected to the second manhole

01:17

manhole. one

01:19

click to place the pipe end,

01:22

zoom in

01:24

click manhole one again to place the start of the next pipe

01:28

and then drag and click manhole to to place the end,

01:32

continue to place the start and end points of each length of pipe from

01:37

manhole to manhole until you have connected all the manholes in this area.

01:42

Be aware that these objects could be created in a Cad model 1st.

01:47

If so,

01:48

then you would not have to place them here in info drainage.

01:52

Either way,

01:53

the outcome should be the same.
