InfoWorks WS Pro includes a transient systems (TS) simulation option
00:08
that can indicate potential critical areas within the network due to transient pressures.
00:14
The transient advisor results provide a qualitative estimate of the potential issues that you may wish to investigate further.
00:21
It is important to note that the results of a transient analysis are difficult to interpret,
00:26
so you may wish to consult someone with expertise in this area.
00:30
To begin, open the network.
00:33
From the Model Group window, expand the TS Model group.
00:37
Open the TS Network and TS Control by double-clicking the TS Network, or by dragging and dropping it into the main window.
00:45
Next, set the properties of the pump.
00:48
In this example, you are representing a 5-second pump trip and need to account for the non-return nature of the pump station.
00:55
Use the Find Network Objects tool to locate the pump station with asset ID “KCH2PMP”.
01:03
Then, in the Tools toolbar, click Properties to open the Properties window for the pump.
01:09
Scroll down to Transient and click the plus sign (+)to expand the Transient Page.
01:14
Select the Enable Surge checkbox, then expand the Pump Change drop-down and select Trip.
01:20
Set the Trip Time to 5 seconds.
01:24
Next, set the NRV (non-return valve) Diameter to 50.8mm, set the Loss Coefficient to 0, and enable Do Not Reopen the NRV.
01:34
Finally, set the NRV Response Time to 0.1 seconds.
01:39
Commit your changes to the database.
01:42
To run the TS simulation, first, create a new run.
01:46
Right-click Model Group and select New> Run Group.
01:50
Click OK, and then right-click the new Run Group and select New > Run.
01:57
In the Schedule Hydraulic Run dialog, enter “TS-Pump Trip” in the Title field.
02:04
From the Model Group window, drag InfoWorks TS Network, InfoWorks TS Control,
02:10
and Average Demand and drop them into the Network, Control, and Demand Diagram boxes.
02:16
Also, select the box next to Experimental.
02:20
In the Run Type group box, expand the drop-down and select InfoWorks TS to open the InfoWorks TS Options dialog.
02:28
Set the Transient simulation start to 2 May 2022 at 06:00 and the Duration(s) to 30 seconds.
02:36
Leave the remaining options as the defaults and click OK.
02:40
Back in the Schedule Hydraulic Run dialog, at the bottom of the Run Parameters group box,
02:45
expand the drop-down and select Simulation Options.
02:49
Click the Options button next to it to open the Simulation Options window.
02:53
In the Description column, locate the Advise on Hydraulic Transients option.
02:58
In the same row, in the Default column, deselect the checkbox so that the Value column shows Yes.
03:05
Click OK to close the window.
03:08
Click Save, ensure that there are no ERRORS in the Parameters Setup Messages box, and then click Run.
