00:07
So that is a look at our project right now.
00:11
From that point, I am going to come up and create another proposal.
00:14
This time, I'm going to call it assessment.
00:20
This proposal in my workflow is going to be about analyzing the area, analyzing the existing conditions,
00:26
so that we know if the bridge is constructable or if we need to make changes to where we want to lay out the roadway,
00:33
and where the bridge is located, and so forth.
00:36
To do this, I'm going to go to the Manage tab of the ribbon, the display panel pull down, terrain themes.
00:42
I'm going to create a terrain theme here that analyzes the elevations or displays the elevations of this project in a banding.
00:50
Now, it gives you a maximum and minimum value and the colors.
00:54
Notice that the preview down below goes from the low color to the high color.
00:58
You can change those colors by clicking these buttons here, or you can pick from a long list of predefined lists here.
01:06
I'm going to go with just these settings at first to kind of see what the project looks like.
01:10
And as I look at this, I know that we're coming into the yellow area here, kind of below 4,000 feet.
01:16
And we're not coming above 4,000 feet over here.
01:19
So I'm going to edit that elevation, so that 4,000 feet is my high point.
01:26
That way, we can see a little bit better detail as to where the elevation is band at.
01:31
That way, the bridge designer and the road designer can discuss where the road can come in and the bridge is located,
01:36
and not cause problems with the construction later on.
01:40
I am also going to come up and create a new theme for slope, that way, we know where the slopes of this project are.
01:48
You can see that the lower slopes are in the bottom, and then we get to higher slopes up here.
01:54
Again, you can edit that to make them a more custom to fit your needs.
01:58
But that way, we know about where the roadway will have trouble as it's being constructed into the hill.
02:04
You can just turn off the checkmark boxes to turn those off.
02:08
These analysis points will always be with this surface.
02:11
You just have to come into the terrain themes to turn them on.
02:15
I am also going to come in and place a small area, a coverage area.
02:23
I've been told that there's some area down in the Valley here that we can't put any kind of construction area,
02:30
whether it be for poor soils, or poor engineering area, or for whatever reason.
02:38
I'm going to put this coverage in down here, just double click to end that creation.
02:43
Now, I'll come into the environment panel pulldown suitability maps.
02:49
The suitability maps take a look at your project and give you information on where it is suitable for certain constructions to be.
02:59
I am going to highlight the name here and call this Park Bridge.
03:06
And then, I'm going to click "Add Layer" to add a layer in here.
03:12
And this layer, the first layer I'm going to create here is called water. I just want to identify where the water is.
03:17
You can see the main river here, but there's many streams coming down off the hill.
03:21
I just want to highlight that. I'll use the Add feature set.
03:24
And then in the top section, I'll scroll down a bit so I can see the water areas and the streams.
03:32
I'm going to close that box off and click "OK".
03:35
And that adds that in.
03:36
Now, my dialog box doesn't open all the way up until I move it off the screen.
03:40
So, you can see that is listed here.
03:42
I'm going to add another layer for road and rail.
03:48
I know I have deleted a lot of the roads and rails that were already in here,
03:52
but this will highlight any others that are there, and may cause a problem in our design.
03:58
And finally, one more time over here, I'm going to add a layer for no construction.
04:08
And in there, I'll click on the "Filter".
04:10
And towards the top, I'll click "Coverage area".
04:13
I'm going to close out that feature selection and say "OK".
04:17
And now, that adds that in.
04:18
Basically, that's looking for the coverage area that I created down here at the bottom.
04:22
Now, the no construction area is important.
04:24
So, I'm going to use the sliders in this dialogue to push that up to 100%.
04:30
That's the most intense issues that we might face.
04:34
The water areas we know about, I just want to highlight them.
04:37
So, I'm going to slide that down a bit.
04:38
I'll leave the road kind of in the middle.
04:40
Now, I'll click "Apply" and that applies it to the surface.
04:49
And there, you can see those areas are highlighted.
04:52
I'm actually going to move the water up just a little bit.
04:55
And then I'll click "Apply" again.
04:58
You can see where those streams are located.
05:01
That way, we can either avoid certain areas or know that we need to do something special about the construction in other areas as we do this.
05:09
And there is clearly an area that we need to stay away from in the middle here.
05:13
So, with that, I am going to deactivate the map that's at the top of the suitability maps dialog.
05:19
And I'll close that dialog off.
