So first, let me define industrialized construction.
00:11
It's the application of manufacturing techniques to the built environment.
00:17
Now, listen, I know if you're gonna be an architect one day, you didn't hear me say "you" in that word, right, construction, but you're there.
00:24
Make sure you heard the words, "built environment".
00:28
So when we're applying manufacturing techniques to the entirety of that built environment,
00:32
it means everything from our owners, in their requirements, in concepting with our architects and engineers,
00:39
with our general contractors in building these things, our manufacturers for informing those designs,
00:45
all the way through, you know, my facility managers that are operating these,
00:48
and all the way across that data that needs to feed back to back to that owner and all the stakeholders.
00:54
We want to apply proven manufacturing techniques to the entirety of that process within the built environment.
01:02
I like to think of industrialized construction as the house that I see built.
01:07
You'll hear me use that acronym across the course modules as well as some others.
01:12
At the foundation of our house, you'll see technology and process enablers.
01:17
On the technology side, there'll be things like IoT and big data and analytics that we'll discuss, especially when we talk about digital twins.
01:25
Also, we wanna be able to use that data for predictive analysis.
01:30
The cloud is also very important as well as we wanna share that data across many stakeholders in many parts of the world,
01:37
in a resilient, safe, and efficient productive way.
01:41
Process enablers are there like lean manufacturing, as well as building information modeling and DFMA.
01:50
We'll talk a lot about DFMA and its evolution in other parts of this course.
01:55
At the physical manifestation of our house, you'll see the prefabrication continuum.
02:01
I like to think of it as pieces and parts and not a hierarchy.
02:05
For the right application, use the right pieces and parts from this continuum.
02:10
Things like advanced building products that reduce drying time, curing time, and hot work,
02:15
single trade assemblies, multi trade assemblies, and then volumetric modular.
02:21
Again, not a hierarchy, lots of pieces and parts in your toolkit.
02:27
We wanna then apply advanced building methodologies to those pieces and parts and enable them through DFMA,
02:34
like robotics and automation, as well as things like additive manufacturing.
02:38
So, again, this is the house that industrialized construction built.
02:42
It's not an exhaustive list, but it'll give you a good start.
