Recognize function of a project file.
00:04
After completing this video, you'll be able to use file and library paths for design projects
00:10
and identify templates, libraries, content center, and single user projects.
00:17
Inside of Inventor, we want to begin in the home screen, and we want to go to our Project Settings.
00:23
Inside of our project settings, we can see the current active project with a check mark next to it and information below that can be modified.
00:31
When we take a look at a specific project, we have to understand that inside of Inventor,
00:35
all of our project data will be contained within that project.
00:39
If we try to open files or save files outside of that project, we'll likely get a warning, even though Inventor will allow us to do so.
00:46
So in some instances, we may want to add to our workspace by adding workgroup search paths.
00:52
We can select a workgroup search path option and use the plus icon to add a new path.
00:58
We can search for this new path, and in this case, we may want to add a secondary location for other projects.
01:05
In this case, I'm going to go ahead and add a second location for some sample data sets that came with Inventor in 2016.
01:12
By selecting this as my search path, when I either open or save to that location,
01:17
I'll no longer get a warning telling me that this is outside of our project workspace.
01:22
Once we're done, we can hit Enter to accept that new workgroup search path.
01:26
If we need to remove it, all we simply need to do is right click and select Delete.
01:32
Inside of the project, we can also determine things like the specific appearance and material libraries that we want to use,
01:38
our workspace location, as well as information about things like default templates.
01:44
If we expand our folder options, we can see that we've got Templates, Design, data presets, and Content center files.
01:51
By selecting templates, we can right click and edit this option.
01:54
Currently, it's using the EN-US template and by using the search option, we can look for a new template to use.
02:01
In this case, we're going to select Cancel and we'll select Save and Done.
02:06
We also have Application Options.
02:09
When we select our Application Options, there are other things in here that we can toggle for our specific project.
02:16
When we navigate to the File tab, you can see here that our default templates are listed.
02:21
For example, if we're creating a new part, we may want to change the design data templates and the styles that are used for those parts.
02:29
We can select this option and again navigate to a new location to select a new template.
02:35
We can also use this to toggle things like different colors that we're seeing inside of the environment,
02:41
and we can use our display options, for example changing the way that our initial models are displayed,
02:46
for example shaded with edges.
02:48
All these options can be found within our application options and can be done on a document or application-based setting.
02:55
Keep in mind that we're specifically speaking about projects that are single user projects.
03:00
We're not talking about projects set up for the Vault,
03:03
as those will have different levels of permissions
03:05
and the ability to set up and toggle these application options will be different when working inside of a Vault project.
