In this video,
00:06
you'll learn how to link rit models and control the positioning of the link.
00:12
You'll also see how to link other file formats
00:15
and manage linked files.
00:18
We'll also discuss the difference between linking and importing files.
00:34
When you need to link or import a file, switch to the insert tab.
00:40
In the link panel, you can see several tools for linking files.
00:46
And in the import panel, you can see a few tools for importing files.
00:53
Be aware that when you import a file,
00:56
you actually import that data into your rit project.
01:01
So you need to be aware of what is actually in the file that you are importing
01:07
some of the data could negatively impact the performance of your rev project.
01:14
For this example,
01:16
we have a new project created using the default template
01:20
and we'll link another rev it project
01:23
on the insert tab.
01:25
In the link panel, click link rev it.
01:29
This opens the import link R VT dialogue
01:33
and you can navigate to the location where the rev it model is that you want to link.
01:39
For this example, I'll select the linked model exercise file.
01:45
Next. We need to pay attention to the positioning options.
01:50
There are automatic options that will automatically place the link,
01:56
there's center to center which will place it at the geometric center
02:00
of the host project using the geometric center of the link.
02:06
The internal origin to internal origin option will match up the internal origins.
02:14
In order to use the buy shared coordinates option,
02:17
the models need to have the same shared coordinate system.
02:24
The project base point to project base point
02:27
option will match up the project base points.
02:31
Additionally, there are manual options
02:35
and you can manually place the link using the internal origin,
02:39
the base point
02:41
or the center.
02:44
For this example, I'll select auto
02:47
internal origin to internal origin
02:50
and then click open.
02:53
When I do, you can see the linked rivet model
02:58
be aware that if you cannot select the link,
03:01
it's likely due to your selection settings.
03:05
If select links is disabled, you won't be able to select a link.
03:10
So you can enable select links.
03:12
And then you should be able to select the linked
03:15
rit model
03:17
additionally.
03:19
If somebody accidentally moves the link or you accidentally move the link,
03:25
you can select it
03:27
right click and use one of the reposition options.
03:31
There's a reposition to project base point
03:35
and reposition to internal origin option.
03:39
Since we used internal origin to internal origin,
03:42
I'll select reposition to internal origin.
03:46
And the linked rev model moves back to the internal origin
03:51
with the link. Still selected
03:53
I will click pin on the contextual ribbon tab
03:58
so that we pin the link
04:00
and that will usually keep it from
04:03
accidentally moving.
04:06
Also
04:07
it, once you pin it,
04:08
then you may not be able to select it
04:10
due to the select pinned elements selection setting.
04:15
So you need that enabled and then you'll be able to select it
04:19
or you can disable it so that you don't accidentally select it.
04:23
If you don't want to be dealing with any of the links.
04:27
As far as visibility and graphics goes, you can still use the visibility,
04:32
graphics overrides dialogue
04:35
to control the visibility and graphics of the link.
04:39
I'll open the visibility, graphic O
04:41
RS dialogue.
04:43
And we can use the tools in the model categories tab
04:47
and anything we do here will also affect the link.
04:52
But if you want to control the link specifically,
04:55
then you can switch to the rev it links tab.
04:59
And on this tab, you can make the link half tone or underlay
05:05
or you can click the button in the display settings, column
05:09
to open the RB T link, display settings, dialogue.
05:13
And in this dialogue, any changes you make will only affect the linked model.
05:19
For example,
05:21
I'll change to the custom option here on the basics tab
05:26
and we could select one of these options or
05:28
we can also switch to the model categories tab
05:32
and then change the option to custom.
05:35
And now we can make changes here that's similar to what we had on
05:40
the visibility graphic overrides dialogue.
05:43
But now the changes we make here will only affect the link.
05:48
For example,
05:50
if I switch to the, if I come down to the walls category
05:54
and then click the button
05:56
under cut lines
05:58
and we can change the color to
06:00
green just so we can see it
06:03
and then I'll click OK to close each dialogue.
06:06
And now we can see that the walls are green
06:10
in our linked
06:11
rit model.
06:13
Additionally, I'll go back to the visibility,
06:16
graphic overrides dialogue and switch to the rit
06:18
links tab
06:20
and I'm going to change it to half tone
06:22
and then click. OK?
06:24
And now we can see it become very dim.
06:27
If we go to the manage tab and expand the additional settings button,
06:32
we can click half tone underlay
06:35
and control the underlay and half tone settings.
06:40
For example, if I decrease the brightness and then click OK,
06:44
we can see it become even more dim.
06:48
So you can use half tone and underlay and then those half tone underlay settings
06:53
to get the
06:55
the visibility and graphics exactly like you want them to be
06:60
also on the manage tab.
07:02
In the manage project panel,
07:04
you can click manage links to open the manage links, dialogue.
07:09
There are a few things that you can do with linked files.
07:13
So on the rev it heading,
07:15
I will select the model that we linked
07:17
and we can unload the link
07:20
So
07:21
if you don't need it for the time being, you can click unload
07:24
and then unload it
07:26
and
07:27
the link will remain
07:29
and the status will simply be not loaded.
07:33
And you can always go back and click reload
07:35
or you can even click reload from
07:38
and reload the
07:40
link
07:41
from
07:42
another location.
07:43
I'll click reload.
07:45
And now we can see
07:47
the status has changed back to loaded.
07:49
If you no longer need the link,
07:51
you can select it
07:52
and then click remove
07:54
and then you can remove the link altogether.
07:56
Additionally,
07:57
on the manage links dialogue,
08:01
there's an add button
08:02
and you can click,
08:04
add to open the import link RVT dialogue
08:07
and then you can link a model.
08:10
So instead of using the tool,
08:12
you can open up the manage links, dialogue
08:15
and use the add button
08:17
and link in a file.
08:22
So
08:23
here we've linked in the same model
08:25
using the manage links, dialogue.
08:28
So we had removed the link
08:31
and then we added it back in
08:33
using the manage links dialogue.
08:36
I'm gonna go back
08:38
and I'm gonna remove it again
08:40
and then I'll click.
08:42
OK?
08:43
And we'll take a look at a few other options here
08:48
back on the insert tab.
08:49
You can see that there are several tools to link additional files.
08:55
You can link to IFC files,
08:58
C
08:58
ad files.
08:60
If you have some type of scan data in a point cloud, you can link the point cloud.
09:06
If you have a NAVIS works model, either an NWD or NWC file.
09:12
You can link that using the co ordination model tool.
09:16
You can link PDF files, image files and
09:20
several options there.
09:22
I'll click link PDF and then select the site plan PDF and click open.
09:29
And this opens the import PDF dialogue and I will use the default values and click.
09:34
OK?
09:36
And now I can simply click to place that PDF file
09:42
with the PDF selected.
09:44
I can click manage links
09:46
and it opens the manage links, dialogue to the PDF heading.
09:50
There are similar options here.
09:53
For example, I can unload it,
09:55
I can reload it,
09:57
I can remove it all together.
09:59
And so you can use those tools on the insert tab
10:03
as well as the manage links, dialogue
10:05
to control the linked files that you have.

00:04
In this video,
00:06
you'll learn how to link rit models and control the positioning of the link.
00:12
You'll also see how to link other file formats
00:15
and manage linked files.
00:18
We'll also discuss the difference between linking and importing files.
00:34
When you need to link or import a file, switch to the insert tab.
00:40
In the link panel, you can see several tools for linking files.
00:46
And in the import panel, you can see a few tools for importing files.
00:53
Be aware that when you import a file,
00:56
you actually import that data into your rit project.
01:01
So you need to be aware of what is actually in the file that you are importing
01:07
some of the data could negatively impact the performance of your rev project.
01:14
For this example,
01:16
we have a new project created using the default template
01:20
and we'll link another rev it project
01:23
on the insert tab.
01:25
In the link panel, click link rev it.
01:29
This opens the import link R VT dialogue
01:33
and you can navigate to the location where the rev it model is that you want to link.
01:39
For this example, I'll select the linked model exercise file.
01:45
Next. We need to pay attention to the positioning options.
01:50
There are automatic options that will automatically place the link,
01:56
there's center to center which will place it at the geometric center
02:00
of the host project using the geometric center of the link.
02:06
The internal origin to internal origin option will match up the internal origins.
02:14
In order to use the buy shared coordinates option,
02:17
the models need to have the same shared coordinate system.
02:24
The project base point to project base point
02:27
option will match up the project base points.
02:31
Additionally, there are manual options
02:35
and you can manually place the link using the internal origin,
02:39
the base point
02:41
or the center.
02:44
For this example, I'll select auto
02:47
internal origin to internal origin
02:50
and then click open.
02:53
When I do, you can see the linked rivet model
02:58
be aware that if you cannot select the link,
03:01
it's likely due to your selection settings.
03:05
If select links is disabled, you won't be able to select a link.
03:10
So you can enable select links.
03:12
And then you should be able to select the linked
03:15
rit model
03:17
additionally.
03:19
If somebody accidentally moves the link or you accidentally move the link,
03:25
you can select it
03:27
right click and use one of the reposition options.
03:31
There's a reposition to project base point
03:35
and reposition to internal origin option.
03:39
Since we used internal origin to internal origin,
03:42
I'll select reposition to internal origin.
03:46
And the linked rev model moves back to the internal origin
03:51
with the link. Still selected
03:53
I will click pin on the contextual ribbon tab
03:58
so that we pin the link
04:00
and that will usually keep it from
04:03
accidentally moving.
04:06
Also
04:07
it, once you pin it,
04:08
then you may not be able to select it
04:10
due to the select pinned elements selection setting.
04:15
So you need that enabled and then you'll be able to select it
04:19
or you can disable it so that you don't accidentally select it.
04:23
If you don't want to be dealing with any of the links.
04:27
As far as visibility and graphics goes, you can still use the visibility,
04:32
graphics overrides dialogue
04:35
to control the visibility and graphics of the link.
04:39
I'll open the visibility, graphic O
04:41
RS dialogue.
04:43
And we can use the tools in the model categories tab
04:47
and anything we do here will also affect the link.
04:52
But if you want to control the link specifically,
04:55
then you can switch to the rev it links tab.
04:59
And on this tab, you can make the link half tone or underlay
05:05
or you can click the button in the display settings, column
05:09
to open the RB T link, display settings, dialogue.
05:13
And in this dialogue, any changes you make will only affect the linked model.
05:19
For example,
05:21
I'll change to the custom option here on the basics tab
05:26
and we could select one of these options or
05:28
we can also switch to the model categories tab
05:32
and then change the option to custom.
05:35
And now we can make changes here that's similar to what we had on
05:40
the visibility graphic overrides dialogue.
05:43
But now the changes we make here will only affect the link.
05:48
For example,
05:50
if I switch to the, if I come down to the walls category
05:54
and then click the button
05:56
under cut lines
05:58
and we can change the color to
06:00
green just so we can see it
06:03
and then I'll click OK to close each dialogue.
06:06
And now we can see that the walls are green
06:10
in our linked
06:11
rit model.
06:13
Additionally, I'll go back to the visibility,
06:16
graphic overrides dialogue and switch to the rit
06:18
links tab
06:20
and I'm going to change it to half tone
06:22
and then click. OK?
06:24
And now we can see it become very dim.
06:27
If we go to the manage tab and expand the additional settings button,
06:32
we can click half tone underlay
06:35
and control the underlay and half tone settings.
06:40
For example, if I decrease the brightness and then click OK,
06:44
we can see it become even more dim.
06:48
So you can use half tone and underlay and then those half tone underlay settings
06:53
to get the
06:55
the visibility and graphics exactly like you want them to be
06:60
also on the manage tab.
07:02
In the manage project panel,
07:04
you can click manage links to open the manage links, dialogue.
07:09
There are a few things that you can do with linked files.
07:13
So on the rev it heading,
07:15
I will select the model that we linked
07:17
and we can unload the link
07:20
So
07:21
if you don't need it for the time being, you can click unload
07:24
and then unload it
07:26
and
07:27
the link will remain
07:29
and the status will simply be not loaded.
07:33
And you can always go back and click reload
07:35
or you can even click reload from
07:38
and reload the
07:40
link
07:41
from
07:42
another location.
07:43
I'll click reload.
07:45
And now we can see
07:47
the status has changed back to loaded.
07:49
If you no longer need the link,
07:51
you can select it
07:52
and then click remove
07:54
and then you can remove the link altogether.
07:56
Additionally,
07:57
on the manage links dialogue,
08:01
there's an add button
08:02
and you can click,
08:04
add to open the import link RVT dialogue
08:07
and then you can link a model.
08:10
So instead of using the tool,
08:12
you can open up the manage links, dialogue
08:15
and use the add button
08:17
and link in a file.
08:22
So
08:23
here we've linked in the same model
08:25
using the manage links, dialogue.
08:28
So we had removed the link
08:31
and then we added it back in
08:33
using the manage links dialogue.
08:36
I'm gonna go back
08:38
and I'm gonna remove it again
08:40
and then I'll click.
08:42
OK?
08:43
And we'll take a look at a few other options here
08:48
back on the insert tab.
08:49
You can see that there are several tools to link additional files.
08:55
You can link to IFC files,
08:58
C
08:58
ad files.
08:60
If you have some type of scan data in a point cloud, you can link the point cloud.
09:06
If you have a NAVIS works model, either an NWD or NWC file.
09:12
You can link that using the co ordination model tool.
09:16
You can link PDF files, image files and
09:20
several options there.
09:22
I'll click link PDF and then select the site plan PDF and click open.
09:29
And this opens the import PDF dialogue and I will use the default values and click.
09:34
OK?
09:36
And now I can simply click to place that PDF file
09:42
with the PDF selected.
09:44
I can click manage links
09:46
and it opens the manage links, dialogue to the PDF heading.
09:50
There are similar options here.
09:53
For example, I can unload it,
09:55
I can reload it,
09:57
I can remove it all together.
09:59
And so you can use those tools on the insert tab
10:03
as well as the manage links, dialogue
10:05
to control the linked files that you have.
