In this video,
00:06
you will learn how to initiate work sharing and create works sets
00:10
so that multiple team members can work on the same project.
00:15
You'll also see how to use work sharing display
00:18
modes and manage works sets and linked models.
00:23
Lastly,
00:24
you'll see how to detach a model from the central model.
00:35
Work sharing allows multiple team members to
00:38
work on the same project simultaneously.
00:42
The process involves initiating work sharing
00:46
and then creating a central model.
00:49
All users then create a local copy of the central model
00:54
and synchronize their changes to the central model.
00:58
Let's take a look at how this works
01:01
to initiate work sharing. Switch to the collaborate tab
01:05
then in the manage collaboration panel, click collaborate,
01:10
there are two options here
01:13
within your network
01:15
or in the cloud.
01:17
If you choose in the cloud,
01:19
you must have access to the Autodesk construction cloud.
01:23
I'll select within your network and then click. OK.
01:28
And when I do
01:29
rev it initiates work sharing,
01:33
the next step is to create the central model.
01:36
And really all you have to do is click save in the quick access toolbar
01:42
rev it recognizes that this is the first time that
01:44
the project is being saved since work sharing was enabled.
01:48
So all you have to do is click yes
01:51
in the save file as central model dialogue.
01:56
And when you do
01:57
the project is now saved as a central model.
02:03
And really you should not work in the central model.
02:06
So you can close the file at this point by clicking the file tab
02:10
and then clicking close.
02:13
Then under models, you can click open
02:16
and navigate to the central model.
02:20
And when you select it in the open dialogue,
02:23
you can see that create new local is selected in the work sharing area.
02:29
And when you click open,
02:31
you then create a local copy of the central model.
02:37
Now you can work in your local copy
02:41
and perform whatever changes you need to make. And then instead of saving
02:46
the project, you actually synchronize with the central model.
02:50
So on the collaborate tab
02:53
in the synchronized panel,
02:54
you can see there is a synchronized with central split button.
02:58
And when you click synchronize and modify settings,
03:02
it opens the synchronize with central dialogue.
03:06
And here you can choose to synchronize and then relinquish
03:11
any works sets and elements.
03:14
And it's typically recommended that you select any available check box here
03:18
so that you relinquish those items
03:22
and then you can click, OK,
03:24
and rev it will synchronize your changes from the local model to the central model.
03:31
You can also create works sets
03:34
to help divide the work.
03:37
Let's take a look at that on the collaborate tab
03:40
in the manage collaboration panel,
03:42
click works sets
03:44
to open the works sets, dialogue.
03:47
This is very customizable.
03:50
You can create works sets to meet the needs of your project.
03:54
For example, maybe you have a co and shell works set and an interiors works set
04:00
and maybe even a site works set.
04:03
Or if you're working on a high rise,
04:05
maybe you have work sets for groupings of levels, for example,
04:10
levels one through 56 through 10,
04:13
so on and so forth.
04:14
It's whatever you need for your project.
04:18
When you click new
04:20
rev, it opens the new works set dialogue.
04:23
I will enter corn shell
04:28
and then I'll leave visible and all views selected and click. Ok,
04:33
I'll click new one more time
04:35
and this time I'll type in interiors
04:40
and then I'll click. Ok.
04:43
At this point, you can see that I am listed as the owner of these two works sets.
04:49
Whereas the other two, I am not and that's because I relinquished those earlier.
04:55
And so I'll click. Ok.
04:57
And
04:58
reed asks if I want to make the interiors works set, the active works set. I'll click.
05:02
No.
05:03
And then I'll click synchronize and modify settings in the quick access toolbar.
05:09
And then I'll choose to relinquish the user created works sets again and click. Ok.
05:16
Now when I go back to the works sets, dialogue,
05:19
you can see that I am no longer the owner.
05:22
So what that means is that any user that creates a local
05:25
copy of this central model can borrow elements in a works set.
05:31
I'll click. OK?
05:33
And then I will select one of the exterior walls.
05:38
And if I look in the properties palette
05:41
under the identity data section, I can see the works set
05:45
and I can change the works set.
05:47
For example, I'll change this to core and shell
05:50
and then I'll deselect the wall.
05:54
Now there's also what's called the active works set. And you can see that
05:58
in the active works set drop down.
06:01
So you can, while you can change the works set of existing elements,
06:05
you also need to make sure that
06:07
you have your active works set set correctly.
06:10
And then anything you add will be added to the active works set.
06:16
If you want to see what works set elements belong to,
06:20
you can use a work sharing display mode
06:23
on the view control bar,
06:25
click work sharing display.
06:28
And then you can see the various options that you can use.
06:33
For example, when you select works sets,
06:36
the works sets, work sharing display mode will be enabled in the view.
06:41
And now you can see
06:43
a color code on the elements based on
06:47
the works set.
06:49
So for example, I'll select
06:51
another exterior wall and I'll change the works set two core and shell
06:56
and you can see that it updates.
06:58
So this is helpful as you are working to make
07:01
sure that elements are modeled on the correct works set.
07:05
You can also use one of the other work sharing display modes.
07:09
For example, check out status owners and model updates and those work best.
07:15
When you are actively working with other users,
07:19
you can also click work sharing display off
07:22
to
07:24
remove the current work sharing display mode.
07:28
Additionally, when you open the visibility graphic overrides dialogue,
07:33
you can see that there is a works sets tab
07:37
when work sharing is being used in your project,
07:41
and then you can control the visibility of each works set,
07:46
you can choose to use the global setting,
07:49
which is what we specified in the works sets, dialogue
07:52
or you can choose to show or hide
07:55
that works set.
07:57
I'll click OK
07:59
to close this dialogue.
08:01
And now let's take a quick look at what that looks like
08:04
in a linked model.
08:09
When you have a linked model that is using works sets,
08:13
you can open the visibility graphic overrides dialogue
08:17
and then switch to the rev it links tab.
08:21
Then when you click buy host view under display settings for the link,
08:27
it will open the R VT link
08:30
display settings dialogue.
08:32
And when work sharing is enabled, you will see the works sets tab,
08:36
for example, on the basics tab, I'll select custom
08:40
and then switch to the works sets tab.
08:42
And now we can choose the custom option here on the works sets tab
08:48
and now we can control the visibility of the works sets in
08:53
the linked model.
08:56
I'm going to go ahead and click OK to close each of these dialogues
08:60
and then I am going to click open
09:03
and when we go to the open dialogue,
09:06
and if I select the
09:08
central model,
09:09
really any central model you saw before that we can create a new local,
09:13
you can also choose to detach from central.
09:17
And there are multiple instances for which you may need to do this.
09:21
If you need to send a model and transmit that in some way,
09:24
you can detach it from central
09:26
or if you just need to review it and you don't want to
09:30
actively work on the project, you could detach it from central.
09:35
And the way that you do that is by simply selecting detach from central
09:40
and then click open
09:42
and then you'll get a dialogue that gives you
09:44
the option to either detach and preserve the works sets
09:47
or detach it and discard the works sets altogether.
09:53
And when you detach a model from the central model,
09:57
you can see in the title bar that detached
10:01
is appended to the file name.
