Create and use a key schedule

00:04

in this video,

00:05

you'll learn how to create a key schedule that can then

00:09

be used to automate the addition of consistent schedule information.

00:14

Key schedules are great for schedules that

00:17

contain multiple items with the same characteristics.

00:26

For this example we'll create a key schedule for the room schedule

00:32

all open the room schedule

00:35

and we can see all of the rooms in the project

00:40

as you can see

00:42

the floor, base ceiling and wall finished parameters are blank

00:48

and there are multiple types of rooms that are similar.

00:53

That would have the same information for these parameters.

00:58

When that's the case, you can create a key schedule

01:03

on the view tab

01:05

in the create panel,

01:07

expand the schedules button and click schedule quantities.

01:13

For this example,

01:14

I'll select the rooms category

01:18

and then

01:19

instead of selecting schedule, building components,

01:22

I'll select schedule keys,

01:26

rev It updates the name of the schedule and also makes the key name available.

01:33

You can enter in whatever information you want.

01:37

I'll leave it at the default values

01:39

and then click OK.

01:42

Next rev it opens the Schedule properties dialog.

01:46

And this is similar to creating a schedule of building components.

01:51

We can add available fields to the list of scheduled fields.

01:57

For this example

01:59

we want it to match

02:00

the parameters we need to fill in in the room schedule

02:04

so we can add the floor finish and then the base finish

02:11

the ceiling finish

02:13

and then the wall finish.

02:16

And if needed, you can always adjust the order

02:20

of those parameters.

02:23

Next I'll click OK to create the key schedule

02:28

As you can see it's blank and so we need to

02:32

add rows and we can use the insert data road tool

02:37

and I'll click it twice to add two rows and then

02:42

we need to specify the key name for each one.

02:47

For the first one

02:49

I'll enter office

02:51

and then press enter

02:54

and for the next one I'll enter exam room

02:58

and then press enter.

03:01

Now we can specify the floor finish, base finish, ceiling finish and wall finish

03:08

for each of our keys

03:12

for the exam room,

03:14

I'll enter V C. T. For the floor finish

03:18

and then press enter

03:21

and for the office. I'll enter would

03:25

and press enter

03:29

For the base finish. I'll enter VB for each one

03:35

and for the ceiling finish I'll enter a C T for each one

03:43

And for the wall finish I'll enter PNT-1 and PNT-2.

03:54

Once again we could add additional rows for the various

03:59

types of rooms that we have and the amount of

04:02

rows that you add will just vary depending on the

04:05

size of the project and whatever you are working with.

04:10

Once you're ready to use those keys

04:13

switch back to the schedule. So in this case the room schedule

04:17

and then click edit next to fields

04:20

to open the schedule. Properties dialog

04:24

Now, in the list of available fields we can see the key name, which is room style.

04:31

So I'll I will add that to the list of scheduled fields and then I'll move it up

04:37

to right below the

04:40

right above the floor finish and right below the area.

04:44

And then I'll click OK.

04:46

And now we can see a room style column in our schedule.

04:53

I'll scroll down to an exam room

04:56

and I'll select

04:57

exam room for the key.

04:60

And when I do you can see the other parameters populate.

05:06

So as you can see, we can quickly specify those parameters for our exam rooms.

05:13

I'll scroll down to the offices

05:16

and I'll do the same thing, but I'll select office this time

05:20

and once again we can quickly specify those parameters.

05:26

So as you can see,

05:28

you can create a key schedule and then add rows for

05:33

the various keys and then select them here in your schedule.

05:38

You could continue this by adding

05:41

the types of rooms for say, restroom, janitor, maybe entryways or lobbies,

05:48

and then continue to select the room styles here in

05:52

the schedule to populate the rest of the room schedule.
