Prepare for a simulation study.
00:05
After completing this video, you'll be able to
00:07
use the simplify workspace and deea
00:10
a part for simulation
00:13
in fusion 3 60.
00:14
Let's get started with the supply data set, static stress prep dot F 3D.
00:20
We want to begin creating a static stress simulation study. For this design.
00:24
We want to learn how we need to set it up in fusion 3 60.
00:28
So the first thing that we need to do is
00:29
navigate from the design workspace to the simulation workspace.
00:33
You'll be prompted on screen to select a new type of study.
00:37
For this example, we're gonna be using static stress.
00:40
The static stress study will allow us to analyze the deformation
00:44
and the stress in the model from structural loads and constraints.
00:47
This has to happen within a certain range of the material specifications.
00:52
Note that we also have other static stress simulations in the case of nonlinear
00:58
is talking about the different range where
00:60
the material behaves in a nonlinear fashion.
01:03
Again, for this example,
01:04
we'll be using the first study type static stress and select create study.
01:09
Once we have a study created,
01:11
we're going to be looking at simplifying the model before we do anything else.
01:16
And one of the reasons why we want to simplify
01:18
a model is oftentimes when we design for production,
01:21
we add more detail than is needed to validate for a simulation study.
01:25
For example, the small champers on the corners, those are needed for production.
01:30
We need to make sure that
01:32
inserting bushings or bearings into this design are gonna
01:35
fit properly and they don't catch on the edges.
01:37
However, when we're simulating a design,
01:39
those are not critical aspects of the design.
01:42
So we're going to do this by navigating to what's called the simplify workspace.
01:46
This is a contextual workspace that you can
01:49
only get to inside of the simulation study.
01:52
What we're gonna be doing first is
01:54
deur our part,
01:55
we're gonna go to our modified menu and select remove features.
01:59
We're gonna select the body in question and
02:01
notice on screen that things become highlighted.
02:04
We can determine what types of features we want to remove.
02:07
We can manually select features or use the slider to change the feature size.
02:13
In this case, we're gonna toggle off select all,
02:15
but we want to get rid of filets and champers.
02:18
And when we look at a design like this,
02:20
there will be some filets that are going to be important for our structural study.
02:25
When we look at filets that blend between
02:27
the straight section and into the end bosses,
02:30
those filets are going to be important.
02:33
Now, in this design, those filets are a little bit larger than the rest of the filets.
02:36
So we can use the slider
02:38
and drag down on the feature size until those features are no longer highlighted.
02:44
We can see now that the filets around the outside edge
02:47
as well as the champers are going to be removed.
02:50
Once you're happy with the selection, we can use the delete button
02:54
and that'll delete those features from our design.
02:57
Once we close this dialogue, we now have a remove features feature in the timeline.
03:03
This means that we can roll back at any point in time
03:06
or we can make adjustments to it by right clicking and selecting edit
03:11
for this design.
03:11
However,
03:12
this is going to be a good starting point as the other filets
03:15
are likely not going to be contributing factors for our initial simulation study.
03:20
Something else that we can consider in the simplify
03:22
workspace is if there are additional model components,
03:25
whether they're bodies or components,
03:27
we can right click and we can remove them in the simplify workspace.
03:31
Any changes that we make to a design in the simplify,
03:34
workspace are not going to affect the model in the design workspace.
03:39
If we finish simplify
03:40
all the changes are contained in what's called a simulation model.
03:44
New simulation models can keep those changes or
03:48
it can revert back to the original design.
03:51
And if we navigate back to the design workspace,
03:53
you'll note all those features come back and
03:55
the remove features is not in our timeline.
03:58
So keep in mind these changes are made on the
04:01
simulation model itself and it does not affect the overall design
04:05
at this point. Let's make sure that we do save this design before we move on.
