Configuring Report Output for Project Explorer

00:00

RUSS NICLOY: Hello, and welcome to customer reports and Project

00:02

Explorer.

00:03

My name is Russ Nicloy, Civil Solutions Specialist

00:06

at Macer Technologies.

00:08

In this course, we are looking at Project Explorer for Civil

00:14

in your design file.

00:16

This session is part two of three configuring

00:18

Project Explorer for reports.

00:21

Currently, we are looking at how to create custom reports

00:24

and tables in Project Explorer.

00:26

In this learning path, we are at the

00:28

configuring Project Explorer for reports course.

00:31

This session will first look at how

00:33

to define an object set to set up for creating reports

00:36

and tables.

00:37

Next, we will look at creating layouts styles.

00:40

Finally, we will look at creating a table style.

00:45

First thing I need to do here is to come into the Add Ins

00:48

ribbon, the Project Explorer panel,

00:51

to the Project Explorer tool, and launch the Project

00:53

Explorer.

00:59

We are starting off by creating an object set because that's

01:04

going to be the package that holds the data that we

01:06

need for our reports or tables.

01:10

I'm in the alignment tab, and you can see here

01:13

that there are other tabs here for other objects we

01:16

can do the same thing for.

01:18

I'm going to come down here to the alignment

01:19

that we need to work with.

01:22

When I have that selected the data down below,

01:24

is all about the definition of that alignment.

01:28

Currently, I'm on the calculated stations tab.

01:31

I'm actually wanting to go to the alignment PI

01:33

because I'm doing an alignment PI report.

01:36

You can see that it changes the formatting there.

01:38

I'll come up and right-click on the alignment name

01:41

and choose add to object set.

01:43

Notice that the name of the tab is shown here.

01:46

Kind of a quick check, so you're not using the wrong tab

01:49

before you get started.

01:51

Before I go any further, I do want

01:53

to point out that there are quick reports and quick exports

01:55

here.

01:56

These are quick, and they may not

01:58

have the detail that you need in a lot of cases.

02:00

And in the case of tables, they won't be dynamic.

02:04

So we're going to go and do a little more definition

02:06

to these.

02:07

So with the add to object, set I'll click new object set.

02:12

In here, I'm going to name this.

02:17

And then come down to object set actions.

02:19

Notice that there are several report types

02:21

that we can create.

02:23

We could export, or we could export

02:25

as tables for either mind space or paper space.

02:28

In this case, we're doing a report.

02:30

I'm going to choose the HTML file format.

02:33

Down below, I could use the layout style of the Project

02:36

Explorer Window and that is from this tab

02:39

the different format columns and details that we have there.

02:44

In this case, however, I'm going to use a specific layout style

02:47

and edit my own.

02:50

In here, notice I've got different objects at the top.

02:52

I'm using the alignment in this case.

02:55

In the dropdown chooser here, the first one is an overall

02:59

object table, but I'm going to go down here to the alignment

03:02

PI's.

03:05

And then, instead of using all of these columns,

03:07

I'm going to uncheck all of the columns

03:09

and then checkmark the ones I want like station, easting,

03:13

northing distance and direction in and PI included.

03:18

Also, I noticed that the northing field

03:21

is going to come before the easting,

03:23

so I'm going to use the arrows to push that up

03:26

above the easting, so the columns

03:27

will be in the correct order.

03:29

Also, I should point out that each of these magenta tacks

03:33

here are editable.

03:35

So I could double click on this--

03:38

the justification of the stations,

03:41

and change that from right to center.

03:44

Or the PI included angle.

03:46

And I'm going to take out the word included to save room

03:50

in our column header.

03:53

I could also go to the ultimate geometry labels,

03:56

and every time a label for one of these parameters

03:59

comes, up change the word that's used in there as well.

04:03

I don't need to do that in this case.

04:04

However, I'm going to come up and hit Save.

04:07

This way, I can use this report style later on.

04:12

It can become my standard PI report style.

04:18

I'll click, OK.

04:20

Also, in here, I can come into the file output options.

04:23

I can name the file using pre-created naming templates,

04:29

or in this case, the object set name in the draw name.

04:32

Here is what that name is going to look

04:34

like in this particular case.

04:37

Down below, I'm going to output this to my project location.

04:45

Down below that is the report style.

04:47

If I leave it on default, here are the details that I'm using.

04:51

I am going to go into the specific report style

04:53

and edit a style of my own.

04:55

And come in here, the first tab is about the page layout.

04:58

I am going to change the units two inches,

05:01

so I can check to make sure I'm using the true 8 1/2 by 11

05:04

for my report.

05:05

I can put a header in, which is going to be the drawing name.

05:08

Actually, I need that to be the report name.

05:12

And down below is the footer, which is just

05:14

going to be page numbers.

05:15

I can also adjust the page margins here.

05:18

Next tab in is the font.

05:20

The font and the size are OK.

05:22

The table information is, do we have shading in the cells?

05:26

What color is the border?

05:28

And how much space do we have in each cell?

05:31

All of this is fine for our report.

05:34

The second last there is the header options.

05:37

This is information that can be stored

05:39

at the top of the report.

05:41

I'm actually going to change this field name to report name.

05:48

And then change the field value to match that report name.

05:55

I'm also going to take the drawing path right-click

05:58

and delete that row.

05:59

I don't need that information in this header.

06:01

I could also right click and insert a row

06:03

or change the order of the rows if I need to.

06:07

I can also add an image to the report header,

06:10

which I won't do in this case.

06:11

I'll click, OK.

06:13

And then I'm going to save this style of,

06:21

so again I can use it later.

06:24

And they're just letting me know that object set has

06:26

been created correctly.

06:32

Now, to access that object set, I can go to this last tab,

06:35

the object sets tab, and there is the object

06:37

set that I can access.
