NARRATOR: Hello and welcome to Feature Lines
00:02
in Project Explorer.
00:03
My name is Russ Nicloy, Civil Solutions Specialist
00:06
at MACER Technologies.
00:08
In this course we are looking at Project Explorer for Civil 3D
00:11
which is an environment that allows
00:13
you to work with and analyze objects in your design pile.
00:16
This session is part 1 of
00:20
Currently we are looking at how to create and edit feature
00:23
lines through Project Explore.
00:25
In this learning path we are at the Creating Feature Lines
00:28
course.
00:29
This session will look at how to create feature lines,
00:32
how to manipulate the feature lines properties,
00:35
and how to create feature lines from Civil 3D objects all
00:38
through Project Explorer.
00:41
Of course the first thing we need to do
00:43
is open Project Explore, I'm going
00:44
to go to the add-ins ribbon and open the Project Explore.
00:53
And in the Project Explorer we're
00:54
going to access the feature lines tool that's
00:56
on this tab right here.
00:58
Feature lines tab and you can see that there are already
01:01
feature lines in the file, but we're going
01:03
to create a feature line here.
01:05
First, actually going to create a site,
01:08
you don't have to do this obviously,
01:09
this is the same as doing a feature line in Civil 3D.
01:13
But we are going to create a site,
01:15
so that this can be on its own site away from everything else.
01:25
I'm going to zoom in where the feature lines is going to go.
01:28
We're going to put a ditch near this roadway here.
01:31
And then I'm going to use the first icon
01:33
on that upper section to create a feature line.
01:38
And here you can see the site that we've already given it.
01:41
You could create it or change it here as well.
01:44
I'm going to give it a name so I can find it later,
01:51
and I'll leave the style as it is.
01:53
I'll click OK, and then come in and draw that feature line.
01:58
I'm going to lock like a point here.
01:59
I'm going to give it to the surface elevation
02:02
there for the existing ground surface.
02:08
Drop a point in the middle, this is
02:10
going to be our drainage point later on.
02:11
I'm going to give that a zero grade,
02:13
I don't really care about that now, I'll
02:15
come back and fix that later.
02:17
I'm going to put another point in here, which again we're
02:19
tying into the surface, so I'll type SU,
02:22
and tied to the surface there.
02:24
And there you can see that line, tied to the surface here
02:27
and at the end, but has a flat portion
02:30
in the middle until we fix it.
02:33
Now, you can see down below, in this middle window,
02:36
ditch line is at the bottom.
02:37
It's one of the feature lines that we have in our area there.
02:42
I realized that I need to change the name and the style,
02:45
I didn't really give it what I should have in the beginning.
02:48
I'm clicking off of it so you can
02:49
see that this text is magenta and so is the feature line
02:53
style text.
02:54
That means it's editable, black text
02:56
is not but the magenta text is.
02:58
So, I'm going to double click on the name
02:60
and I forgot that there is a self rating as well.
03:03
So, this is the north ditch line and the basic feature line,
03:08
I want to change that to the corridor ditch style,
03:11
I'll click OK.
03:13
Something else that we need to look at
03:15
is the fact that you can build feature lines,
03:17
not only natively but from Civil 3D objects.
03:20
If I come back up to the Create tool,
03:24
we have from objects, from alignment, from corridor,
03:27
and from step to offset.
03:29
I'm going to use the Create feature lines from step
03:31
to offset.
03:33
That way I can use the feature line that I just created there.
03:38
I'll offset the distance five feet, slack the object,
03:45
slack to side to offset, and then the elevation difference,
03:50
I'll go with one foot difference.
03:55
I'll hit escape to let go of that
03:56
and now we have that second line.
04:00
Actually I'm looking for the site right there.
04:03
So, we can build these future lines
04:04
from other objects as well as natively.
