DEEPAK MAINI: Welcome to the first objective
00:02
of this course, where we are going to activate the BIM 360
00:06
Model Coordination Service.
00:08
And we'll also create coordination spaces.
00:13
Now, when it comes to activating the BIM 360 Model Coordination
00:17
Service, it is important for you to remember
00:20
that you need project admin permissions to be
00:22
able to do that.
00:24
If you do not have project admin permissions,
00:26
then you cannot activate a service.
00:30
The other thing that you want to keep in mind
00:32
is services like model coordination could actually
00:35
be automatically activated, if you applied
00:39
a template project with this service active,
00:42
while activating the document management service
00:44
for the current project.
00:46
So please bear that in mind.
00:49
Let's now go straight to the Browser Interface
00:51
to activate the model coordination service.
00:54
As you can see here, I'm currently
00:56
logged in as project admin for this medical laboratory
00:59
project.
01:01
You will also notice that I'm currently on the Services tab.
01:04
And from the Left panel, I've got Overview options selected.
01:09
You can see that I've got the document management
01:11
service already active, which is the bare minimum to activate
01:15
any BIM 360 project.
01:17
This project also has design collaboration service active
01:21
because it is a multidisciplinary project.
01:25
Now I'm going to activate the model coordination service.
01:28
And for that, I'll simply click on the Activate button.
01:34
It now starts the process of activating this service.
01:37
It takes a few seconds to activate the service.
01:40
Now as you can see, the service is active.
01:43
This is also a good time now for us to go to the Members tab
01:47
and make sure that we provide access to this service
01:49
to all the required members.
01:56
And you can see here currently none of these members
01:58
have got access to BIM 360 model coordination service.
02:02
I'll first click on the icon for my name,
02:05
so I get the admin access to the service.
02:09
For the rest of them, I'll click on the icon
02:11
and give them the user access.
02:14
As you can see here, I'm the only one
02:16
who has got the admin access to this service.
02:20
Let's go back to our Services page.
02:25
And we can straightaway see that the model coordination
02:28
is one of the services here.
02:30
Also, if I click on the Module Selector,
02:35
I can see model coordination as one
02:37
of the items in the module selector as well.
02:40
The next thing that we want to do
02:42
is create the Coordination Spaces.
02:44
But before I do that, let's switch over to the slide deck
02:47
and talk about a couple of important things
02:50
that we got to know before we create coordination spaces.
02:55
Let's first understand what is a coordination space.
02:59
A coordination space is nothing but a folder that
03:01
hosts the files that will be used for automated clash
03:05
detection.
03:07
This folder can be in the plans area or the project files
03:10
area of the BIM 360 document management interface.
03:15
The coordination space could also
03:16
have subfolders and the files inside those subfolders,
03:21
and you would still be able to view clashes between them.
03:25
You can have a single coordination space,
03:28
or you could have multiple coordination spaces.
03:32
Let's now talk about a couple of important things
03:34
that we need to keep in mind, like selecting folders
03:37
for creating coordination spaces.
03:41
So the first thing that you got to keep in mind is,
03:43
is this a BIM 360 design-enabled project?
03:48
If yes, then you can use the Shared Folder
03:51
as one of your coordination spaces.
03:53
And this is my favorite features.
03:55
That's because as soon as any discipline shares
03:58
their package, the shared packages are automatically
04:01
copied in the shared folder, which
04:03
means that we'll be able to detect clashes automatically
04:06
on all the released files sitting in the shared folder.
04:10
You can also select any other folder
04:12
as your coordination space.
04:14
So for example, you might have some IFC files coming
04:17
from programs like Tekla, and you
04:19
want to check the clashes of those files
04:22
with other IFC files.
04:25
The next thing is if the BIM
04:28
is not a BIM 360 design-enabled project,
04:31
then you can select any folder you want as your coordination
04:35
space.
04:36
But please keep this in mind that you'll
04:38
have to manually copy or upload files into those folders
04:43
to be used for automatic clash detection.
04:46
Let's now switch over to our web interface
04:48
to create coordination spaces.
04:51
The first thing I'm going to do is
04:53
click on the Module Selector.
04:57
And then I'm going to display the document management
04:59
interface.
04:60
But what I'll do is instead of changing
05:02
this browser to document management,
05:04
I'll right click on it.
05:05
And I'll open that in a new tab.
05:12
So in my case, as you can see, I've
05:14
got the shared folder because this
05:17
is a BIM 360 design-enabled project,
05:19
so I'm going to use that as one of my coordination spaces.
05:23
But I also have an IFC coordination folder
05:26
where I've got some IFC files that I've copied.
05:30
These files also need to be checked for clashes.
05:33
Hence, I'm going to create another coordination space
05:35
for IFC clashes using this folder.
05:40
Let me now switch over to the other tab.
05:43
And from the left panel, I'm going
05:44
to click on Model Coordination.
05:50
And now I'm going to click on Create to create
05:53
the coordination space.
05:55
Call it as Shared Files Coordination.
05:60
And now I'm going to select the folder
06:02
for this, which is in Project Files, Shared Folder.
06:07
Please note that although the files are copied
06:10
in the subfolders inside the shared folders,
06:13
we'll still be able to see the clashes between all
06:15
those files.
06:19
It now starts to create that coordination space.
06:24
I want to create another coordination space
06:26
for the IFC files.
06:32
And as I showed you earlier, I'm going
06:33
to go to the project files area, and then select the IFC
06:37
coordination folder.
06:41
So that's pretty much it.
06:42
I've created the two coordination spaces.
06:45
At any point of time, you can also
06:46
go and deactivate a coordination space
06:49
and create additional coordination space if required.
