NARRATOR: Co-authoring a structural model in Revit,
00:05
creating the superstructure.
00:08
In this adding braces video, we're
00:10
going to present a workflow to demonstrate
00:13
how to add diagonal braces to the structural frame.
00:17
During this topic, we shall set up a framing elevation.
00:23
Add some bracing to the frame and review the progress
00:27
of the analytical model.
00:32
We are in structural model of the Medical Center data
00:35
set working on the second floor.
00:39
The easiest way to place braces is through a framing elevation
00:43
view.
00:44
To set one up, simply select framing elevation
00:48
on the elevation on the view ribbon.
00:53
Hover over one of the grid lines and track
00:56
the cursor either side of the grid line
00:59
to set the view direction.
01:01
And picked the grid line to generate the required framing
01:04
section.
01:07
Double click on the elevation tag
01:09
to open up the framing elevation view.
01:13
First, we should reduce the size of the level of annotations
01:16
by changing the view scale to 1/4 inch to one foot.
01:23
Then expand the scope of the elevation
01:26
by dragging out the view drop box on either side of the grid
01:29
lines.
01:46
Then use visibility/graphics overrides
01:49
dialog to hide the architectural and MEP links in the view
01:54
so we only see the geometry in the structural model.
01:58
Of course, these settings could be
02:00
saved to a view template then apply to all future framing
02:04
elevation views.
02:07
With the view set up, we are now ready to add
02:10
the diagonal braces.
02:12
Adding the braces can be done in course detail
02:15
level with a structural members are displayed a single line
02:18
mode making them easier to snap to.
02:22
From the structural ribbon, select brace.
02:26
Select the appropriate member type
02:29
from the Properties palette.
02:31
In this case, we are selecting a simple round bar called RB1.
02:37
Then add each of the braces snapping to the geometry
02:41
of the steel columns.
02:55
Whilst the physical model has progressed,
02:57
we shall see from 3D analytical model view.
03:01
For the analytical model has been
03:03
updated to include all the new geometry.
03:08
In our next learning path, we should demonstrate the process
03:10
for modeling the building substructure
03:13
ready for analysis.
