SIMON JONES (VOICEOVER): Coauthoring a structural model
00:02
in Revit, creating the substructure.
00:07
In this adding strip foundations video,
00:10
we're going to present a workflow that demonstrates
00:13
how to complete the substructure model with strip foundations
00:17
underneath the barren walls.
00:20
During this video, we shall add strip foundations,
00:24
demonstrating an automatic layout as well
00:27
as how to adjust individual foundations.
00:30
And we shall add an additional foundation slab
00:33
to see how it automatically merges with the strip
00:36
foundations.
00:38
We are editing the structural model of the medical center
00:41
in the 3D Structural Only view.
00:45
To insert strip foundations, select Wall from the Foundation
00:49
panel on the Structure ribbon.
00:53
Hovering over one of the barren walls
00:55
will highlight the wall as a preview of where the strip
00:58
foundation would be inserted.
01:01
However, if you hit Tab and select the wall,
01:05
the command will select all the walls making up
01:07
a continuous chain around the building footprint
01:10
and then places selected strip foundations
01:13
underneath the whole chain.
01:16
We shall repeat the procedure for the barren walls
01:19
in the lower level of the building.
01:21
In this case, notice how the new strip foundations
01:24
have merged with the existing foundation pads.
01:29
We're going to replace the strip foundations
01:31
underneath the elevator shaft with a single rectangular
01:36
foundation slab.
01:40
First, we shall delete the foundation strips
01:42
underneath the elevator shaft and the superfluous one
01:47
at the end of the building.
01:49
Then, we can use the Align command from the Modify ribbon
01:53
to extend the remaining end strip foundation to joint back
01:58
with the rest of the foundations.
02:05
Next step is to add the slab underneath the elevator shaft.
02:09
We shall switch to the top of footing Plan view.
02:14
Then from the Structure ribbon, we
02:16
shall select slab from the Foundation panel.
02:20
For the slab boundary, we shall start
02:23
using the Pick Line option with an offset of 6 inches.
02:28
We shall then pick the three external edges of the elevator
02:31
shaft.
02:33
Then switch to a basic Draw Line option
02:36
without an offset to close the rectangle.
02:44
Switching back to the
02:48
and taking a look underneath the building,
02:50
we can see the new slab still highlighted.
02:54
Hitting Esc to clear the selection,
02:57
we can see that the slab has merged automatically
02:60
to the strip foundations.
03:03
Switching to the Callout Detail view of the footings,
03:06
we can see that it has been updated
03:09
with the strip foundation, which can then be tacked.
