The trim and extend commands have been an AUTOCAD for quite some time
00:08
prior to the 2021 release, their behavior was slightly different.
00:12
We'll talk about the changes in 2021 in just a bit.
00:16
But for now, let's take a look at how trim and extend work in their legacy behavior.
00:22
You can access both the trim and extend commands up on the home tab of the ribbon
00:28
on the modify panel
00:30
and going to the trim drop down
00:33
trim is the first command extend as a second command.
00:37
Of course, like most other commands, you can type them in as well.
00:42
Let's take a look at trim first
00:45
in this situation.
00:47
Maybe I want to trim this particular line in between these two lines
00:53
in the legacy behavior. If I type in trim
00:57
and then hit enter,
00:59
what I would first need to do to be able to trim.
01:01
This line is select these two lines as cutting edges,
01:05
which I could select individually
01:07
or I could use a crossing window
01:11
and then right click for enter.
01:14
And then when I hover over the line,
01:16
it gives me a preview of what that trim command is going to do for us.
01:23
The same behavior can be said with the extend command,
01:27
let's say, for example, I wanted to extend these two lines
01:31
up to this line where I just trimmed,
01:35
I would go ahead and select
01:38
the lines
01:39
to extend to.
01:42
And then when I hover over the lines that I want to extend, I get a preview.
01:48
So then I could select them individually or once again,
01:51
I could use crossing
01:53
to extend those lines.
01:57
Some other legacy behavior involves hatches
02:00
if I were to draw a poly line
02:05
across this hatch, for example.
02:10
And then I wanted to use the trim command
02:14
where the hatch would be the boundary.
02:18
I would select the hatch.
02:20
And then after a right click and enter,
02:24
you'll notice that I can hover over the individual pieces of the line
02:30
and each individual piece between the hatch pattern
02:34
would be trimmed out.
