Link Civil 3D road corridors to an InfraWorks model

Import and link a road corridor from Civil 3D into InfraWorks.

In this example, you import road corridors from Civil 3D into InfraWorks.

Open a road corridor drawing in Civil 3D.

Then, in InfraWorks, open the file to which the road corridor will be linked.

This example uses a dam file that opens in the proposal titled C3D_ROAD_CORRIDOR_IMPORT.

In InfraWorks, from the Manage tab, Content panel, select Data Sources.

In the Data Sources panel, expand the Add File Data Source drop-down, and select Autodesk Civil 3D DWG.

Navigate to and select the Civil 3D file with the road corridor.

Click Open.

In the Choose Data Sources popup, select Include All, and then click OK.

Back in the Data Sources panel, click Refresh to display the imported data and start processing.

If you see a popup with information about the imported surfaces, click Yes.

In the Surface Layers dialog, expand the Terrain Surfaces folder.

Then, drag the Uncategorized imported Civil 3D surfaces and drop them into the Ground Surface folder.

Use the light bulb icons to toggle the display of surface layers on or off.

If the Surface Layers dialog does not pop up automatically, you can go to the Manage tab, in the Display panel, and click Surface Layers.

The Civil 3D road corridor is now imported into InfraWorks.

Select the road alignment to view the Civil 3D properties.

If any data is revised or updated in Civil 3D, select the corridor in InfraWorks, right-click, and choose Re-Import.
