When using the Autodesk Informed Design add-in for Autodesk Inventor,
00:07
you can use product definitions to create a predefined set of input parameters and rules
00:12
to constrain the variants that can be generated and output types that can be extracted.
00:17
This allows you to publish an Inventor product model to the Autodesk platform
00:22
so that it can be leveraged in Revit designs or through the Informed Design web app.
00:27
With a model open in Inventor, such as this staircase assembly, navigate to the Informed Design tab, and then select Product Definition.
00:35
The Product definitions list provides access to new and existing product definitions, including the one from the active Inventor model.
00:44
Click New product definition to start creating a new product definition for the active Inventor model.
00:51
In this tabbed interface, you generally work from left to right to define your source content, parameters, and rules,
00:59
and finally to the Outputs tab to publish your model.
01:02
You can click Save at any time to save your progress as you create a product definition.
01:09
Also, the Publish button will become available after all the required data has been entered.
01:15
In the Source content tab, you can identify the content to use for your product definition.
01:21
Set a product definition name; in this example “ID-Staircase”.
01:27
Then, under Model, verify the Base model location.
01:32
This is a read-only field identifying the active Inventor model that must be saved locally.
01:39
Next, define the Root folder.
01:41
The root folder for Inventor files may vary, so be sure to select the root folder location containing all the necessary local dependent files,
01:50
such as parts, drawing templates, and the IPJ.
01:54
However, be aware that Informed Design does not work with files saved in Autodesk Vault or files not saved locally.
02:02
Click Select to identify the Inventor project file related to the associated components.
02:09
In this case, since you already chose the root folder, the correct file location opens.
02:15
Select the .ipj file, and then click Open.
02:20
You can see a preview of the model in the Thumbnail view.
02:24
Scroll down to the Output sources.
02:28
From here, you can select any drawing template files that have been defined and saved in the same project file.
02:35
This makes these documents available to include as output types in the web portal.
02:40
In this example, all the files are selected.
02:44
With your source content set, click Save to save your product definition locally.
