Create a project in Fusion

In Fusion, you create projects to contain and organize your design data.

You may have a design that needs to be saved,

or you may have opened an existing sample and want to save it as a new design before you start experimenting.

For instance, this sample design is open, but since samples are read-only, any changes you make can only be saved as a new project.

From the Application bar, click Show Data Panel.

Next, click the Home icon at the top of the Data Panel.

Fusion creates a first project folder for you, but you may want to store this design in a new project folder.

To do this, click New Project.

Add a project name, such as “My Lessons”.

Once created, double-click to open the folder.

Notice that the folder is empty, and the New Project icon now says New Folder.

If your project depends on many different models, you can create subfolders for each design.

This is a great way to keep your project organized.

Click New Folder and name it “Model 1”.

Then, double-click to open this subfolder.

Now, you can save your current design to this new folder.

From the Application bar, expand the File drop-down.

If this is a new design, you have an option to Save.

If this is an existing design or sample, you have an option to Save as.

Since this part is an existing sample, select Save as.

In the Save As dialog, set the name and location.

In this case, the same name is used, and the location is already set to the current location of My Lessons > Model 1.

Click Save.

A thumbnail image of the part appears in the Data Panel.

You can also create a new project or new folder on the fly while saving your design.

From the File drop-down, click Save As again, and in the Save As dialog, click the arrow next to the Location field to expand the dialog box.

Now, you can see all your projects here, plus options to create a New Project or New Folder.

Of course, you could also expand the dialog to navigate to a different folder before saving your design.

If you have many projects, your newest project may appear far down in the list in the Data Panel.

Locate and place the pointer over your newly created My Lessons project,

then click Pin to make sure that this project is always located at the top of your list.

This enables quick access to your most important projects.
