In ReCap Pro, Linear Feature Extraction allows you to extract linear features,
00:08
such as curbs and gutters, from a point cloud dataset.
00:12
Published ReCap point cloud projects have access to extraction tools in the Autodesk Construction Cloud viewer.
00:19
Before you extract a linear feature, you must first define its shape.
00:24
From a web browser, navigate to a ReCap project that has already been published to the cloud.
00:30
Zoom into a linear feature, such as a curb, and orient the view at the planned beginning point of your extraction.
00:36
From the toolbar, select Linear Feature Extraction.
00:40
Then, select a point in the point cloud.
00:43
A Cross Section View of the selection displays as well as a Cross Section Widget.
00:48
Use the widget arrow as a directional guide by hovering your cursor around the widget.
00:54
Back in the Cross Section View, the display updates based on the direction you indicate.
00:59
Click a point in the direction of the intended extraction.
01:03
Once a direction is selected, the arrow is locked in place.
01:07
Now, in the Cross Section View, click and drag to arrange the feature points of the cross-section to define the shape of the extraction.
01:15
In the Cross Section Widget, the feature points update according to your adjustments.
01:20
Continue to arrange the points until the shape of the extraction is satisfactory.
01:24
In this case, adjustments are made until the lower feature point aligns with the edge of a curb’s flag.
01:30
When a linear feature extraction is first created, it is assigned 4 feature points with default tags.
01:37
Each time a feature point is added to an extraction, a new tag is created.
01:42
To organize the feature points, you can rename and assign specific colors to them.
01:47
Feature points can also be tagged.
01:50
In the Cross Section View, click Edit Feature Points.
01:54
Select a feature point and then click Tag.
01:57
This opens the tag editor which displays the current tag name and color of the selected feature point.
02:04
Select X to remove the current tag.
02:07
A search field and a list of already existing tags display.
02:11
If you cannot find an appropriate tag, enter a tag name in the search field and press ENTER.
02:17
The new tag displays in the drop-down.
02:21
Select the new tag and then click Done.
02:25
Edit the other feature point tags as needed.
02:28
Once finished editing, you can also add more feature points.
02:32
To do so, select a gray point.
02:35
A color is automatically assigned to it, and you can edit it as you did before.
02:39
For now, however, select the new point and then select Delete Point.
02:43
The new point is now removed from the Cross Section View.
02:47
Working with feature points is a critical step in linear feature extraction.
