We'll begin by opening an existing project from the recent files page.
00:10
We're going to construct a gable roof over
00:13
the garage using the roof by footprint method.
00:16
So it's over this building here
00:18
that we're going to create this gable roof from the project browser.
00:23
Double click on the garage roof floor plan
00:27
and then within the view tab
00:30
windows panel, select tile views,
00:35
then using the wheel mouse zoom and pan into the garage in both views.
00:42
So we'll do that in the floor plan and the 3d view
00:46
and make sure that the garage roof floor plan is the focus for you
00:50
from the architecture tab up on the ribbon, click on there
00:54
and within the build panel, click on the roof, fly out
00:58
and click roof by footprint.
01:01
We will now be in sketch mode
01:03
by default. We are creating a boundary
01:06
as the boundary line icon is currently highlighted
01:11
using the pick walls tool. Within the draw panel,
01:14
we are going to draw a closed loop around the footprint of the building
01:18
offset by a distance of two ft.
01:22
So on the options bar within the overhang field, we'll type in two
01:28
and then moving the cursor into the graphics area will left mouse click
01:34
before we create our closed loop. Notice also up on the options bar
01:39
that the defined slope tick box is enabled.
01:44
We're halfway our cursor over one of the existing walls
01:47
until we see a dash line outside the garage building.
01:50
So if we hover our cursor here
01:53
and then hit the tab key once on the keyboard
01:56
and then left mouse click to add the closed loop.
01:59
The two shorter lines, one at the top, the other at the bottom
02:04
are going to form the gable for their roof.
02:07
So we need to remove that slope symbol.
02:09
So click, modify up on the ribbon
02:12
and with the help of the control key, choose the two short lines.
02:15
So we'll click the first one at the top, hold the control key down
02:20
and select the lower of the shorter lines
02:23
and then up on the options bar.
02:25
We will now remove the tick
02:28
within a defined slope check box
02:32
and now select modifier to deselect all lines.
02:36
We can now see two lines with a slope symbol adjacent to them
02:40
and two without,
02:43
we'll adjust the values allocated to the two with a slope symbol from nine inch,
02:50
to six inch by 12 inch.
02:53
So again, with the assistance of the control key,
02:56
we'll click one of those lines,
02:58
hold the control key down, select the other line
03:02
and within the properties pallet
03:04
change the slope value
03:06
to six inches. So we replace the nine with a six
03:11
click in an empty space within the garage roof. Floor plan to deselect the two lines
03:18
from the ribbon. We'll now click the green tick to finish edit mode.
03:24
And in response to the question,
03:26
would you like to attach the highlighted walls to the roof? We'll now click attach,
03:32
click in an empty space to deselect the roof.
03:35
Looking at both views, we can now see the roof has been successfully created
03:40
earlier. We used the pick walls tool to draw the closed loop.
03:44
What this achieved was to create a parametric
03:47
relationship between the roof and the walls.
03:50
If we go down to the view control bar, allocated to this view
03:55
and within the visual styles pop up menu,
03:57
choose wire frame
03:60
and now we can see the walls.
04:02
So if we click and drag any wall, we'll see
04:06
that the roof auto adjusts
04:08
to match the movement of the wall.
04:11
If you go up to the quick axis toolbar and click undo
04:15
and drag another wall, we can see
04:18
that the roof auto adjust
04:21
and once again, we'll click undo
04:23
up on the quick axis toolbar.
04:25
We will now set the visual style back on the view control bar
04:29
to back to hidden line.
04:32
We also constructed the roof within the garage roof floor plan
04:36
which constrained the roof to this level.
04:39
We now got over to the project browser and
04:42
opened the south elevation by double clicking on it
04:46
and make that south elevation of view, the main view.
04:50
And we do that by going up to the view tab up on the ribbon and click on there.
04:55
And within the windows panel, select tab views
04:59
and then zoom in to the garage. So using the wheel will zoom and pan into the garage.
05:06
This level here
05:07
is the garage roof level.
05:10
So if we click on that
05:12
and increase that by a foot, so if we change that to four ft,
05:17
when I hit, enter on the keyboard,
05:19
we can see that both the walls and the roof auto adjusted.
05:23
So if I click on that temporary dimension again
05:26
and change it back to three,
05:28
we can see it returns back to its original level.
05:33
We'll now open the 3D view by clicking on the tab at the top of the graphics view
05:39
and within the quick axis toolbar, we'll select the icon that closes inactive view.
05:44
So we click on close inactive views within the view.
05:48
We will now double click our wheel
05:51
to zoom to fit.
