The area of a building is one of the most important design aspects.
00:08
Budgets and costs are often based on the square footage of a building.
00:12
And even the number of people that can occupy the building
00:15
is based on the area required per person.
00:19
For example, a child in a classroom requires a minimum amount of space.
00:23
And therefore the area of the classroom will limit
00:26
the number of students that can occupy that class.
00:32
I have the exercise file, create areas open
00:35
and we can see the building that we will add the areas to.
00:38
Before creating the areas, we must first create an area scheme
00:43
and to do this from the architecture ribbon tab,
00:46
we'll click on the rooms and areas panel drop down
00:49
and then we'll select area and volume computations
00:53
on the area schemes tab
00:55
I can see that we have gross building and rentable area schemes already here.
00:59
So we'll click the new button on the right hand side
01:02
to create a new scheme,
01:04
I'll change its name to zone in
01:07
and then we'll click OK to create that area scheme.
01:12
Now we need to create area plans that relate to the new area scheme.
01:18
So from the architecture ribbon tab on the rooms and areas panel here,
01:21
we'll click the area drop down
01:23
and then click area plans
01:27
in the new area plan setting here.
01:29
We'll change the type to be the zoning scheme that we just created.
01:34
And now we need to select the levels that we want to create the area plans for.
01:38
So we'll select floors 123 and four
01:42
and then we'll click ok, to create those plans,
01:45
we'll be asked whether we want
01:47
to automatically create area boundaries that
01:50
are associated to the external walls.
01:52
So we'll click. Yes,
01:55
and then
01:56
we'll click ok to any warnings that appear.
01:58
And then we'll have to repeat this for each of the plans that we're creating.
02:04
So once we've clicked, yes, for the final plan,
02:07
we can see that we're actually left in the floor four area plan here
02:11
because this was the last one that was created.
02:14
Now, looking at the project browser,
02:16
we can see that we have a group for area planned zoning.
02:20
And if I expand this out,
02:21
we can see that we have the area plans for the different floors that we created.
02:25
And we can see that the floor for view
02:28
is highlighted in bold here as that's the current active view
02:32
looking closer at the view itself.
02:34
We can see that we have these purple area boundary lines
02:38
and these were the ones who are automatically created
02:40
and associated with the external walls of the building.
02:44
We need to add in some more area boundaries to divide the interior space
02:49
and to do this, we'll go to the architecture room and tab
02:52
and on the room and area panel
02:53
or click the area boundary tool.
02:58
Looking at the place area boundary ribbon,
03:00
we can see that we have the draw tools available to us
03:03
and that the pick lines tool is currently active
03:07
looking at the options bar. We can see we have the apply area rules, options checked.
03:12
And now all we need to do is click on the
03:14
walls that will divide the interior space of our floor plan.
03:18
We'll click the wall that runs along the top of the corridor here
03:21
and then
03:23
we'll click the vertical wall on the left
03:24
here that returns back to the external wall.
03:28
And then we'll also select the wall at the end
03:31
of the corridor to close off the corridor here.
03:34
Now, we want to close in the other side of the corridor,
03:37
but we don't actually have a continuous wall here to select.
03:40
So we'll draw this one in, in a moment.
03:43
So whilst we have to pick lines tool enabled,
03:45
we'll pick on the wall at the left here that comes back to the external wall.
03:49
And now we'll go up to the draw panel on the ribbon
03:52
and enable the line tool.
03:55
And now we can draw that line across the corridor to enclose that space
03:59
and then we'll draw down the side of the court just here to close that end off.
04:07
We also enclose the corridor at the end of the tower too.
04:13
And then the last bit we need to do is for the stair core here on the right hand side.
04:18
So I'll enable the rectangle tool from the ribbon now
04:22
and then we can just draw the rectangle over the top of the walls here.
04:29
So now I'll click, modify to finish placing the area boundaries.
04:36
I'm panning across to the tower just here.
04:39
We can see that it doesn't quite follow the line of the wall.
04:42
So I'll select the existing area boundary here
04:45
and then using the end controls here, we can just drag this round
04:49
to enclose that space properly
04:53
and looking at these area boundary lines,
04:55
we can see that some of them overlap and they don't all form perfect corners.
04:59
However,
04:60
this won't affect the areas as the area
05:02
rules determine the exact location of the lines,
05:05
depending on whether they are internal or external walls and
05:09
the area will take account of this when it's placed.
05:13
So now we're ready to start placing the areas.
05:16
So from the architecture ribbon tab
05:19
on the room and area panel here,
05:21
we'll click on the area drop down and this time we'll click the area tool.
05:25
Now we can see we have the tag on placement option in a board.
05:28
So as we place the errors, they'll automatically be tagged.
05:32
Now as we go over the building here, as we go into one of those enclosed spaces,
05:37
we can see the area fill in that space
05:40
and we now we just need to click to place that area in and we can
05:43
see now with the yellow shade in here that that's filled that space for us.
05:48
So we'll move to the next one here in the corridor and click to place that.
05:52
And then in the core at the end
05:55
now in the tower, we'll place one there. And then finally in the stair core,
05:59
we can place that area there
06:03
and then that finishes placing the areas into floor four.
06:06
So I'll click, modify to finish this.
06:11
So now we've got all the areas placed in,
06:13
we're zoom in a little bit closer and we can see the tag here named as area
06:17
with the actual square footage beneath that.
06:20
So we can select the tag and then click on the name itself to edit that.
06:25
And we'll assign the name core into this area just here.
06:29
We'll repeat it for the area next to us and we'll name this one circulation
06:37
moving across to the larger space. The first one that we placed,
06:41
we'll select that tag and we'll name this office space
06:49
and then we'll go across to the stairwell here
06:51
and we'll rename this one core.
06:58
And then for the area in the tower,
07:00
we'll change this one to be called office space.
07:09
So now that we have all of the areas placed for floor four.
07:12
We can repeat this task for the rest of the
07:14
building to create all of the areas that we need.
