With Informed Design in Revit, you can load a published Inventor product definition and try out multiple variants,
00:09
while still respecting the design parameters set by the product manufacturer.
00:14
In Revit, navigate to the Informed Design tab, and then select Product Insert.
00:20
In the Customize and Insert dialog, under Select product,
00:24
expand the drop-downs and select the account and project where the product definitions were saved.
00:30
Note that you must have the proper permission to access Autodesk Docs project folders containing Informed Design products.
00:38
Once you have selected the project you need, the available folders appear.
00:42
In this example, the Stairs and Balcony product definitions were saved as sub-folders under the 01.ID.PRODUCTS folder.
00:52
Select STAIRS.
00:54
Under Products in selected folder, you can see the product definitions that were saved and published from Inventor.
01:01
For this example, the ID-Staircase is selected.
01:05
On the right, you can see a thumbnail and details of the product definition.
01:10
If multiple releases are available for the selected product,
01:13
you can select your preferred release by its release number.
01:17
In this example, select release 2, and then click Open.
01:21
The dialog changes to show the New and Existing tabs,
01:25
and the product definition opens with the specifications listed on the left
01:29
and the thumbnail and product details on the right.
01:33
You can now customize the staircase assembly.
01:36
Height and width restrictions were added to the product definition when it was created in Inventor.
01:42
Change the Height to a value between 20 and 96.
01:46
You can also change any of the other specifications, as needed.
01:50
Note that the Insert button is not available.
01:54
Since this is your first variant instance, you need to click Generate to initiate the process.
01:59
It can take a few minutes to generate a new variation, depending on product complexity.
02:05
While you wait for a new variation to generate,
02:08
you can continue editing values and configuring additional variations of the same product.
02:13
In the Generate now? popup, click Generate.
02:17
While the variant is generating, click the Existing tab to see the progress.
02:21
Click the Variants or Details tabs to review the information.
02:26
Back on the New tab, you can click Reset and create another variant.
02:31
For this variant, switch HasRiser, RightRail, and LeftRail to False, and then set the Width to 46.
02:40
Click Generate again to initiate this variant.
02:44
Once your variants are generated, from the Existing tab, select a variant, and then click Insert.
02:50
You can now place this staircase variant into your model using the typical features and functions inside Revit.
02:57
Once you have placed a variant as a Revit element, you can select it to view the Properties.
03:03
Select the staircase, then switch views to the Section view and 3D view to see what it looks like.
03:10
Because the product definition was created as a loadable Revit Family,
03:13
you can expand the Families folder in the Project Browser and locate the definition.
03:19
In this example, open Specialty Equipment to see the ID-Staircase definition.
