00:26
change the display or location of the quick access toolbar.
00:30
Let's look at the customization features of AUTOCAD, quick access toolbar
00:34
for this video, we'll be using a blank new drawing.
00:37
Of course,
00:38
the changes we'll make here can be done at any time from your open drawings.
00:42
An important part of auto Cad's menu system is the quick access toolbar located at
00:47
the top of the interface and just to the right of the application menu,
00:51
most people refer to it by its initials or qat.
00:54
So we'll do the same throughout this video.
00:57
There are nine tools displayed by default,
00:59
but you can easily customize the menu to fit your needs,
01:03
clicking on the small arrow down icon at the end of the QAT
01:06
and just before the share icon will display a drop down menu of available tools.
01:11
The checked items are displayed,
01:13
but there is another set of commonly used tools that you can choose from.
01:17
Let's turn on one of the most common additions to the qat, which is layer,
01:21
you'll just click on it in the list.
01:24
Selecting or deselecting a tool will cause the drop down menu to collapse.
01:28
And you'll see the layer tool now displayed in the qat.
01:31
If you have too many tools turned on for the available space,
01:35
you'll be able to see the others via a flyout menu at the end.
01:39
Perhaps there's a default tool that you never use and you would like to remove again,
01:43
click on the customization icon
01:45
and remove the check from the tool you don't want to see,
01:48
let's deselect save to web and mobile and it will be removed from the qat.
01:53
Customizing the qat can give you a huge advantage in your efficiency.
01:58
As our example shows if you're constantly needing access to the layer,
02:02
pull down the qat,
02:03
lets you access it at any time without having to change ribbon tabs.
02:08
While Autocad gives you a robust set of tools. By default.
02:11
Along with the most common additions,
02:13
you can easily add any tool that you find on the ribbon as well
02:17
to place a ribbon tool onto the qat.
02:20
Right. Click on your desired tool and select add to quick access toolbar.
02:24
Let's do that with the dimension tool.
02:27
As soon as you click the add to quick access toolbar button,
02:30
the pop up dialogue goes away and the dimension tool is added at the end of the qat.
02:35
If your workflow no longer requires that you have
02:38
an added tool from the ribbon in the qat,
02:40
it's easily removed. Let's right. Click on the tool we want to remove from the qat.
02:45
In this case, the same dimension tool we just added
02:48
and select, remove from quick access toolbar.
02:51
It really is just that easy to add and remove tools from the qat.
02:55
You can do it at any time and it can either be a
02:58
permanent change or just for the next 10 minutes for a specific task.
03:03
There are a few other things available to you by right, clicking on an item in the qat,
03:08
you can add a separator line to help you group your tools.
03:11
The separator will appear after the tool that you right, clicked on.
03:15
Let's separate the web and mobile tools,
03:18
right? Click on the save as icon
03:20
and click on add separator.
03:22
You'll see a vertical bar appear between save as and open from web and mobile.
03:27
Now let's add the save to web and mobile back onto the Q A
03:31
open the pull down and check save to web and mobile.
03:34
Even though it's listed in the pull down just after open from web and mobile,
03:39
it will reappear at the end of the qat.
03:42
We want to put it back next to open from web and mobile. But
03:45
you can't move tools in the pull down to reposition them.
03:48
But there is a way to do that
03:50
from the pull down. Click on more commands,
03:53
the collapsed version of the C
03:55
I dialogue will appear,
03:56
click on the double down pointing chevrons on the right
03:59
side of the customizations in all files panel to expand it
04:03
next, expand the quick access toolbars menu item and then also on the sub item.
04:08
These are the tools that you see on your qat.
04:11
Simply drag the save to web and mobile tool up so
04:14
that it's between open from web and mobile and plot.
04:17
We can go ahead and add our next separator from this interface,
04:20
right? Click on save to web and mobile and select insert separator.
04:25
There are many tools available to you from the CU I interface.
04:28
You can add any tool by simply dragging and dropping it into the qat list.
04:33
Many of the actions can be done via the interface.
04:36
But changing the order of the qat can only be done here.
04:39
Let's click OK. To dismiss the dialogue and save our changes.
04:43
You should now see the two web and mobile tools isolated between the two separators.
04:48
If you'd like to remove the separators and return the Q A to its default state,
04:53
just right click on each and select remove from quick access toolbar.
04:57
Finally, you can choose to display the Q A
04:59
below the ribbon from the qat, right, click menu,
05:03
select the bottom option to display it below the ribbon.
05:06
I like it to be in its default position.
05:09
So let's right. Click on the qat
05:11
the menu item now says it will show it above the ribbon.
05:14
Let's click on that to put it back.
05:16
There's actually another place you can choose these options.
05:19
It's right at the bottom of the customized quick access toolbar,
05:22
pulldown menu that we looked at earlier.
05:25
They do exactly the same thing.
05:27
It's just in a couple of different places
05:30
in the same area. You can also access the CU I method or turn on the old style menu bar.
05:36
Let's select that to display it in addition to the ribbon tabs.
05:39
Remember the file, edit view, et cetera menu
05:42
if you ever need it. This is how you turn it back on.
05:45
But keep in mind that, that menu,
05:47
the pull downs and the tool bars have
05:49
not been updated since the ribbon was introduced.
05:53
So it won't contain any commands that have been added since then.
