The status bar displays tools that affect your drawing environment.
00:04
It allows you to toggle settings such as grid snap, polar tracking and object snap,
00:09
learn how to customize the tools that appear in the status bar.
00:12
After this video,
00:13
you will learn to
00:15
recognize the visual prompt of a tool, status,
00:18
access individual tool menus,
00:20
open the customization menu to turn tools on or off.
00:24
Apply the status bar differences in model space and paper space
00:29
for this video, we'll be using a blank new drawing.
00:32
Of course,
00:32
the changes we'll make here can be done at any time from your open drawings.
00:37
Autocad status bar is an integral part of your drafting workflow.
00:41
It's where you get drawing info toggle settings or access their menus.
00:45
Its design is intended to give you a quick visual of what's on or off.
00:50
Quite simply if a status bar icon is displayed with a light blue background,
00:54
it's considered to be turned on.
00:56
For instance, if you click on the iso draft icon a few times,
00:60
you'll see the cursor change into its isometric
01:02
shape and then back again,
01:04
it seems simple, but it is also highly efficient.
01:07
Some of the status bar tools have settings that you can adjust but not all of them do
01:12
find the grid toggle on the far left.
01:14
A right click on the icon will get you a small
01:17
window that will give you a link to the grid settings.
01:20
Dialog.
01:21
Others such as Ortho, which is a couple of icons down, have no further settings.
01:25
So there's no link to display.
01:27
Some icons also have a small arrow down GLYPH
01:30
that will display a menu with standard selections,
01:33
move a little further down the status bar
01:36
and click on the down arrow next to the O snap icon.
01:39
You'll see all the available object snaps and quickly know which are on or off.
01:43
There's also a link at the bottom that lets you open the O snap settings box,
01:48
like many user interface elements in autocad.
01:50
The default tools on the status bar may not suit your needs.
01:54
Some you may never use and others you may not even be aware of,
01:57
but they might be just what you need
01:59
to add or remove items in the status bar.
02:02
Find the three line customization menu button at the right end of the status bar.
02:06
Click on it to display all the options currently available to you.
02:10
Check to add a tool or uncheck to remove it.
02:13
Let's click on coordinates to add it
02:15
and then annotation monitor to have it removed.
02:19
Notice I said it displays the tools currently available to you.
02:22
The reason I phrased it that way is that the list of
02:25
tools differs depending on whether you're in model space or paper space.
02:29
Let's look at the model space list again and also focus
02:32
on the number of tools of the status bar itself.
02:35
Activate either of the two layouts.
02:38
First,
02:38
you should notice that the status bar is somewhat shorter with fewer items in it.
02:42
Click on the three bar customization menu here in paper space.
02:46
You'll immediately notice that the list isn't as long as it is in model space.
02:50
In fact, there are 29 items in model space but only 22 in paper space.
02:55
In fact, you'll get a different list from within an active viewport.
02:58
Also, there are 32 in that list. Why is that
03:02
some things just don't make sense in the
03:04
context of paper space or an active viewport,
03:07
for instance,
03:08
grid and snap aren't intended for paper space
03:10
and the 3D tools aren't useful there either.
03:13
So don't be surprised if you have a tool displaying in the model space status bar,
03:17
but it doesn't show up when you're in paper space.
03:20
It's also important to know that the list of
03:22
displayed tools isn't exclusive to the two spaces.
03:25
In other words, if a tool can appear in both spaces,
03:28
clicking it on or off in one space will also apply to the other to demonstrate this,
03:33
let's turn off Ortho polar tracking and isometric
03:36
while you're here in paper space
03:38
these three appear in both spaces.
03:41
Now
03:41
go back to the model tab and look at the customization menu.
03:45
Notice that all three are unchecked here. Also
03:48
both the visibility states of your tools and their enabled disabled state on
03:52
the status bar are part of your profile and are not part of workspace
03:56
as you change them, they are automatically updated in your computer's registry.
