NARRATOR: Drawing detailed lines showing switch connections.
00:04
We're going to continue to create lighting
00:06
plans for electrical permits.
00:09
In this video, we'll create a line type
00:11
and use it to add arcs that show connections from lights
00:15
to the associated switch.
00:19
I'm working in the Small Medical Center project in the O1 ground
00:22
floor lighting plan view.
00:27
If I hover over one of my lighting fixtures and press
00:30
Tab, I can see that I have circuits
00:33
that are already in this model.
00:35
It's really nice.
00:35
All I have to do is pick an icon to generate a wiring diagram.
00:41
Just like a circuit, I can create a switch system.
00:45
I'm selecting my lights and then clicking Switch.
00:49
And my lights are added to a switch system.
00:53
If needed, I can edit the switch system
00:56
and add additional lights to the system.
00:59
I select my switch and I now have
01:03
connections that are showing.
01:05
Let's do that again.
01:06
I'm just selecting the two lights
01:08
that I want in my switch system.
01:10
I'm creating create switch system, selecting the switch,
01:15
and selecting it and I have my connections.
01:19
Now if I hover over my lighting fixture
01:21
until I get to my switch system, Oh good,
01:24
I can have my lines automatically applied.
01:28
But no, it doesn't quite work that way.
01:31
So what we're actually going to do
01:33
is use a detail line to create the arcs that we need
01:37
showing the switch connections.
01:39
First I want to make a new line type.
01:42
In the Manage tab, I'm selecting additional settings and then
01:46
line styles.
01:48
In the line styles dialog box, I,
01:50
expand the lines and you can see that there are several line
01:54
styles that are automatically used, hidden lines, sketches.
01:58
They have a projection, a line color, and a line pattern.
02:03
As I continue to scroll down, you
02:05
can see I can create additional ones as well.
02:09
So I'm going to click Modify subcategories new and type
02:13
in the new name switch connections and click OK.
02:18
I want this to stand out a little bit,
02:20
so I'm going to make this a projection of 3
02:23
and I'm also going to set it to be a color red.
02:26
What you do in this case depends on your office standards.
02:29
And this by the way, is a good thing
02:31
to put in an office template.
02:36
Let me scoot over here to where I have a few lights that I
02:39
want to connect to a switch.
02:41
In the Annotate tab, I'm selecting detail line.
02:48
Then I want to select my new line style from the list,
02:53
here is switch Connections.
02:56
Now I could use any of these various draw tools.
02:59
And for what I want to do right now
03:01
I'm going to use the start and radius arc.
03:05
It's a little different, not as intuitive as I'd like to be,
03:08
but it does get the work done.
03:10
I'm also going to make sure that chain
03:13
is selected so that I can draw more than one arc in a process.
03:22
I click on the end of my switch, and then remember
03:26
this is a start and arc.
03:28
So I select the end point on my light fixture
03:32
and then I place the radius of the arc.
03:35
I can continue that.
03:37
So remember select the endpoint, it's
03:39
still connected to the first one,
03:41
and then you select the radius.
03:43
Once again, the next endpoint and then
03:46
placing the radius, and the next endpoint
03:50
and placing the radius.
03:53
And you continue this until you get
03:55
all of your lights connected to that switch.
04:01
Now I'm going to press Escape.
04:03
When I press Escape, I stay in the command
04:06
but I can start it again.
04:08
I haven't really lost the command.
04:10
So I'm going to pick end point, end point arc.
04:13
I'm going to click Escape only one line there, end point, end
04:17
point and the radius.
04:20
If I'm going to do a larger group,
04:21
I'm hitting Escape there, and I'll
04:23
start with my first two picks and my arc.
04:28
I'll continue drawing the arc and selecting the radius
04:32
as I go around.
04:37
And I will continue this as many times as is needed.
04:40
So it's not as quick and intuitive as you might do it
04:44
with the wiring diagram, but it's still a very quick way
04:47
to add to your lighting diagram and get
04:50
the information across to the people who will be building it.
