NARRATOR: Creating ceiling plan views using a view template.
00:04
In this video, we'll create a lighting plan
00:07
that shows just the lights and switches
00:09
and displays the ceiling.
00:11
We will do this by setting up a new reflected ceiling plan view
00:15
that uses a new view template.
00:18
This new view type can then be applied to multiple views,
00:21
speeding up the process of creating lighting plans.
00:26
I'm working in the Small Medical Center project in the ground
00:29
floor electrical plain view.
00:31
You can see that there are lights, outlets, and switches
00:35
showing in this view.
00:37
The light fixture tags are set to show
00:39
the electrical circuits.
00:42
Now let's create a new reflected ceiling plan view.
00:45
In the View tab on the Create panel, I'm expanding plan views
00:51
and selecting reflected ceiling plan.
00:55
You can see that the type for the new
00:57
reflected ceiling plan is set and I don't have access
01:01
to my ground floor or second floor
01:03
unless I click Do not duplicate existing views.
01:07
But what I want to do now is actually change this
01:11
and create a new type.
01:14
I'm going to duplicate the ceiling plan view
01:17
and call it lighting plan, and click OK.
01:21
I'm also going to assign a view template
01:23
to be applied to new views.
01:26
I'm clicking the None button, and then in the assign view
01:30
template dialog box I'm going to first select
01:33
Electrical ceiling because that's
01:35
what I want to use as a basis.
01:37
I'm going to duplicate this one, and I'm
01:40
going to call it lighting ceiling and click OK.
01:46
Now I could go ahead and modify all the view properties now,
01:50
but I want to see what this looks like,
01:52
and then I'm going to come back and modify the view
01:54
properties later.
01:56
I have my lighting plan set up, click OK.
01:59
I'm going to choose ground floor so I now have access to those
02:04
and click OK.
02:09
My new view displays and you can see
02:12
there's a few things I might want to change.
02:14
But then if you come down into the ceiling plan lighting plan,
02:17
you can see the view template has been
02:19
applied as lighting ceiling.
02:22
So if I want to make any changes,
02:24
I need to actually do it in the view template.
02:27
First of all, I don't need to have the structural link
02:31
showing at all.
02:33
And secondly, I want to have the reference
02:36
plains in the architectural link not showing,
02:39
but I want to be able to use reference plains.
02:42
I can zoom in I see my lights, but I don't see the switches.
02:46
And so I need to see the switches
02:48
and also it helps to have the door
02:50
swings if you are assigning the switches and such.
02:53
There's also a few duplex receptacles
02:56
that I don't need to be seeing in this view either.
03:00
Because I've assigned a view template,
03:03
I now need to modify it in the View tab, View Templates,
03:08
manage View template.
03:15
I select my new view template lighting ceiling,
03:18
and I can now make changes to the view properties.
03:21
First I'm going to use VG overrides Revit links.
03:25
And I'm going to turn off the structural plan.
03:29
And when I click Apply, you can see
03:31
that the grid lines no longer show along
03:33
with all structural information.
03:36
Next I want to make a change to the display settings
03:39
of the architectural plan.
03:41
So I'm going to click By host view and change it to custom.
03:48
Then I'm going to go to my annotation categories,
03:51
change that to custom, and I can make modifications to this.
03:56
So I'm going to scroll down to reference planes
03:59
and turn those off.
04:01
By doing this, I'm only going to have it turned off
04:04
in my architectural link.
04:07
So I can still use reference planes and my main view.
04:11
First of all, I want to get rid of the outlets.
04:15
So I'm going to go to VG overrides model, click Edit.
04:19
And what I want to change here is electrical fixtures.
04:22
I don't need to shake those in these views,
04:24
so I'm going to change that and turn them off.
04:29
And so I click OK and you can see that those have updated.
04:32
The final thing I need to do is change the view range.
04:35
Once again, I go into View Templates
04:38
and manage the view template, select the lighting ceiling,
04:42
and then I'm going to change the view range.
04:46
First of all, I'm going to change the top of this
04:49
to associated level and set the offset to 10.
04:53
This helps me in case there's no associated level on a higher
04:56
floor or one that's too short.
04:60
Next I want to change the cut plane to four feet.
05:03
That way I'll be able to see most of the switches
05:06
are probably below four feet.
05:11
I click OK and OK again, and the view template updates.
05:18
Now you can see I see the switches,
05:20
I see the door swings.
05:22
I'm also seeing some casework elements.
05:25
Now this depends on how you are working,
05:27
and if you need to see the case work in furniture
05:29
you could have it show here, and I'm
05:32
going to leave it at this point in time.
05:34
Now let's see the power of this.
05:36
I want to create another reflected ceiling plan view.
05:41
I'm going to use the lighting plan type
05:44
and I'm going to do the second floor.
05:46
I click OK and my new lighting plan comes out
05:51
using the same view template.
05:53
Everything's already set, I don't
05:56
have to make any changes to it.
05:58
And if this was a multistory building,
05:60
I could easily create my lighting ceiling plans
06:03
for each of the floors that I need to show.
