Sectioning measurements

Sectioning the model and performing measurements - Exercise

Task 1: Sectioning the Revit model using a section plane

  1. From the Project Files > Shared > Architecture folder, open the Revit model.
  2. From the bottom left, tap on the Section button labeled as 1 in the following figure and then tap on the z section option labeled as 2 in the following figure.

  3. Tap on the section arrow and drag it up and down to locate the section plate, as shown in the following figure.

  4. Drag the Blue or Red edge to rotate the section plane, refer to the video.
  5. Tap on the Section button on the bottom left to turn off the sectioning.

Task 2: Sectioning the Revit model using a section plane

  1. From the bottom left, tap on the Section button and then tap on the section box option labeled as 1 in the following figure.

  2. Tap on any face of the section box and drag the arrow to scale the section box in that direction, as shown in the following figure.

  3. Drag the triad on the top right of the section box to move it.
  4. Similarly, resize the section box and navigate around the model to review the sectioned model.
  5. On the bottom left, tap on the Section option again to turn off sectioning.

Task 3: Performing measurements in the 3D view

  1. From the bottom of the window, tap Measure.
  2. Tap on the Settings option on the top right, as shown in the following figure.

  3. Set the measurement units and precision to your preferred values.
  4. Tap on < on the left of the Settings panel to hide that panel.
  5. Tap and hold down a finger near the corner point shown in the following figure to display the magnified view, as shown below.

  6. Snap to the endpoint, as shown in the figure above.
  7. Similarly, snap to the corner point on the other side to measure the length value, as shown in the following figure.

  8. Similarly, measure other values.
  9. Tap on X on the top left to exit the measurement environment.

Task 4: Performing measurements in the 2D view

  1. From the top right, tap on and then tap on Sheets & Views.
  2. Tap on A101 – GROUND FLOOR to open this 2D view.
  3. From the bottom of the view, tap Measure.
  4. Using the method discussed above, tap on two points at an angle to measure the shortest distance between those two points and also the delta X and Y values, as shown in the following figure.

  5. Similarly, perform other measurements.
  6. Tap on X on the top left to exit the measurement environment.

Task 5: Performing measurements in the PDF files

  1. From the Plans > PDF Files folder, tap on the GA03 sheet to open this PDF sheet, as shown in the following figure.

  2. From the bottom of the window, tap Measure. You are prompted to calibrate the sheet.
  3. Tap OK in the prompt window.
  4. Zoom close to the top of Grid A.
  5. Tap and hold down the finger close to the top endpoint of Grid A to snap close to the top endpoint, as shown in the following figure.

  6. Pan across and tap down snap close to the top endpoint of Grid B to define the second point of calibration, as shown in the following figure.

  7. Enter 14'11 as the value in the value field and then tap Calibrate on the top right, as shown in the following figure.

  8. Now tap on various points to perform distance, angle, and area measurements. The following figure shows an area measurement.
