00:04
The first step we need to take before we can create a pipe
00:06
network is to set the catalog of parts that we wish to work with
00:10
from the home ribbon tab, select the crate design, drop down
00:14
and choose set pipe network catalog
00:19
in the catalog settings.
00:20
The catalog folder sets the path where the catalogs are stored.
00:25
The default location is a folder on your C drive
00:28
but on a real project, this might be a central server location.
00:33
Leave this set to the default
00:37
in the pipe catalog pull down. We can set which pipe catalog we wish to use
00:42
the options you see here will vary depending
00:45
on whether you have installed other country kits.
00:48
We will use the US Imperial pipes catalog
00:52
for the structures catalog, select the US Imperial Structures catalog.
00:58
In your model, you can only use parts from the selected catalogs
01:04
before we can insert parts into the model. We need to create a parts list.
01:09
The parts list provides access to selected parts from the catalog.
01:13
Parts list can be created from the create design pull
01:16
down or from the settings tab of the tool space
01:21
note the option to create a parts list from all catalog parts.
01:25
This is generally not recommended as it will need
01:28
to import information about the parts into the drawing
01:33
from the tool space settings, tab,
01:36
expand pipe network and expand parts lists.
01:40
You can see some parts lists have already been created.
01:44
Right? Click on parts lists and choose create parts list
01:49
in the network. Parts list, go to the information tab
01:52
and change the name to Iowa City Storm.
01:56
Go to the pipes tab and select the new parts list header,
02:01
right click and choose add part family.
02:05
You can see the available families from
02:07
the catalog with different shapes and materials,
02:12
select concrete pipe
02:14
PV C pipe
02:15
and concrete box culvert families
02:18
and then click. Ok.
02:21
Now expand the header to see the families you've added.
02:25
Although you've added the families, no parts have yet been added to do this.
02:29
You must add some part sizes from each family.
02:34
Select concrete pipe,
02:36
right click and choose add part size
02:40
in the part sized creator.
02:42
You can specify which diameter and wall thickness of pipe you want to add.
02:46
These are based on tables and so are linked together.
02:50
You can add individual sizes in this way
02:53
or you can select, add all sizes to bring in all of the sizes in the parts list,
02:59
select add all sizes and click. Ok.
03:02
Now expand the concrete parts family to see the parts you have added.
03:07
Each part
03:09
has a style assigned automatically
03:11
which you can change to any style in the drawing.
03:15
Using the disc icon at the top of the style
03:17
column will change the style for all parts in that family
03:22
set, the style to double line storm
03:26
the rules column sets, the rule set that is applied to the pipes.
03:31
The rule set is currently set to basic.
03:35
You can review or edit the rules that are in the set
03:39
in this set. We have rules for cover and slope.
03:42
We can define the minimum and maximum slope of the pipe
03:45
as well as the minimum and maximum cover depth of the pipe.
03:50
These control how the pipe is placed under the ground.
03:54
There's also a length check which will flag pipes that are too long.
03:59
There are other rules available that you could also add
04:02
in this column.
04:03
You can assign the render material for the pipe that
04:05
will be applied when you view it in 3d.
04:08
The pay item column is used to set a code which can then be used for quantity. Take off.
04:15
Now add all sizes for the PV C pipe
04:19
and add all the inner pipe width and inner pipe height sizes
04:23
to the concrete box culvert,
04:26
set the render material for the PV C pipe to buy block
04:30
and for the box culvert
04:32
set it to concrete cast in place flat gray.
04:36
Now go to the structures tab
04:39
in the structures tab,
04:40
you'll see there's already a structure added called Noel's structure.
04:44
When you join a pipe directly to another pipe, a pipe to pipe join
04:49
and you don't want a manhole or physical structure to be placed. A
04:53
null structure will be added. Instead,
04:56
the null structure records the connection between the
04:58
pipes but without placing a physical structure,
05:02
right. Click on the new parts list and select from the park catalog
05:06
concrete rectangular winged head wall
05:09
from the inner and outlet
05:11
and from junction structures with frames.
05:14
We're going to choose concentric cylindrical structure
05:18
and eccentric cylindrical structure
05:21
and also eccentric cylindrical structure to tier with the circular frame
05:26
from the junction structures without frames.
05:28
Choose rectangular junction structure, NF
05:33
and click. OK
05:34
for the head wall, right click and choose add part size
05:38
and then select add all sizes for the base width and the structure height
05:43
for each of the cylindrical structures. Right click and choose add part size
05:48
and then add all sizes for the inner structure diameter
05:53
for the rectangular junction structure. We'll add just one size,
05:58
set the infrastructure width to 24
06:01
and then set the structure length to 36.
06:05
We can use this structure to represent an inlet gully
06:10
review the structure rules that have been assigned
06:14
the rules for the structures include the default
06:17
and maximum pipe drop across the structure.
06:20
And there is also a maximum pipe size check that can be applied.
06:25
The rules for pipes and structures do not prevent a part being added to the network.
06:29
But where the rules have been broken. The parts will be flagged with warnings.
06:34
Now select all of the structures that have been added to the parts list in turn
06:39
and then in the render material column change the render material
06:43
to concrete cast in place. As shown
06:46
again, a pay item code could be added for each structure type for quantity take off.
06:51
We won't be assigning any pay items.
06:55
The structure type column is used to categorize the structures, its inlets
06:60
manholes combined structures or outfalls.
07:04
These are used when analyzing flows in the network.
07:09
Set the structure type for each of the structures as shown,
07:16
click OK. To save the parts list,
07:19
the parts list has now been added to the drawing and
07:22
we're ready to use it to create our drainage networks.

02:05
You can see the available families from
02:07

02:15
and concrete box culvert families
02:18
and then click. Ok.

04:53
null structure will be added. Instead,
04:56
the null structure records the connection between the
04:58
pipes but without placing a physical structure,
05:02
