To prepare for running an electronics enclosure simulation in Autodesk CFD, you must specify the physical characteristics of the model.

This includes assigning materials to model parts, such as assigning a fan material to blow cooling air through the system.

To start, press CTRL and middle click the Air part to hide it.

Left-click to select the fan.

Then, on the ribbon, in the Setup tab, Materials panel, click Edit.

The Materials quick edit dialog opens, where you can select the material type.

Under Property settings, click the Type value to expand the drop-down, and select Internal Fan/Pump.

Next, expand the Name drop-down and select ComairRotron FlightII 60x25 5000 RPM.

If needed, expand the dialog by dragging the right-side edge.

Next, set the flow direction at the fan discharge.

In the Flow Direction row, click the popout button, and select Z.

Verify that the Flow Direction is 0,0,1.

If the direction is 0,0,-1, click the popout button again and click -/+ to change the direction.

Click Apply.

To verify that the fan material is properly assigned, in the Design Study Bar, confirm the material assignment for the Fan part.

Then, in the graphics window,

ensure that the color of the fan part now matches the ComairRotron FlightII 60x25 5000 RPM color in the legend.

With this material assigned, you are ready to move on to the next step of preparing your model for a CFD simulation.
