Calculating reinforcments of columns

After you calculate reinforcements for slabs and walls, calculate and analyze reinforcements for columns.

00:03

Reinforced concrete structures

00:06

must be designed according to local codes,

00:09

there are many code specific parameters already loaded into ARS

00:14

A.

00:15

You can calculate the required reinforcement

00:18

in a reinforced concrete structure according to the applicable code

00:23

to calculate and analyze reinforcements for columns.

00:27

You must define the code parameters. First

00:31

before beginning with this procedure,

00:33

ensure you have already calculated reinforcements for slabs and panels

00:38

from the text menu, select design

00:42

required reinforcement of RC beams, columns, options

00:46

code parameters

00:49

in the RC member type dialogue,

00:51

select the new icon to create a new member type definition

00:57

in the member type definition, dialogue,

00:59

open the column tab,

01:01

edit the column name

01:03

and then in the buckling with respect to Y axis group,

01:08

click the buckling length coefficient icon

01:12

from the buckling scheme's dialogue,

01:14

select the 0.5 icon and then click, OK.

01:19

Then in the buckling with respect to Z

01:22

axis group,

01:23

select the building length coefficient icon

01:27

again,

01:28

select the 0.5 icon and click. OK.

01:32

Please note

01:33

both of these buckling length coefficients

01:36

should be set to non sway structure

01:40

when finished, click save.

01:43

Now with the new column type selected in the RC member dialogue,

01:47

click within the lines, members field,

01:51

then in the object inspector window,

01:53

right? Click columns

01:56

and click, select all

01:58

click again within the lines members field

02:02

to update the field with a column numbers,

02:05

click apply

02:07

to verify the columns have been assigned to the correct type.

02:11

You can view the member types with color codes.

02:15

First from the views, toolbar,

02:18

select section shapes,

02:20

then from the text menu,

02:22

select view display

02:25

from the display dialogue, select members

02:28

and then

02:29

select member types legends by colors,

02:34

click apply

02:35

and then click OK. To close the dialogue,

02:39

you can also verify the type definition

02:42

by viewing a table

02:44

again from the text menu.

02:46

Select view

02:48

tables

02:50

from the table's dialogue,

02:51

select members and then click OK.

02:54

A table displays where column type assignments display

02:59

close the table

03:02

from the text menu,

03:03

select design

03:05

03:10

calculation parameters

03:13

in the dialogue,

03:14

select standard

03:16

to inspect the calculation parameters

03:19

in the calculation parameter definition dialogue

03:22

in the general tab,

03:24

the concrete parameters are specified

03:27

steel is defined in both the longitudinal reinforcement tab

03:33

and

03:33

the transversal reinforcement tab.

03:36

After verifying the specifications,

03:39

close the dialogue

03:41

back in the calculations parameters. Dialogue

03:44

click in the lines, bars, field to activate it

03:48

and then

03:49

in the object inspector window,

03:51

right, click columns and click, select all

03:55

click once more in the lines bars, field to update the field with the column numbers.

04:01

Click apply and close the dialogue

04:05

next from the text menu

04:07

select design required reinforcement of RC beams columns, options,

04:12

calculations

04:16

the calculations, dialogue displays

04:19

in the code combinations group

04:21

select S

04:23

and SLS

04:25

click, calculate

04:27

the time it takes for the calculations to process

04:31

depends on the structure and code combinations

04:34

along with other factors.

04:36

When it is complete, the calculations report dialogue displays

04:41

to inspect the results further

04:43

from the text menu. Select design

04:47

required reinforcements of RC beams, columns, options,

04:51

table RC member reinforcement.

04:55

This displays a table

04:57

of each member with reinforcements

05:00

applying and calculating reinforcements for columns is a highly

05:04

customizable process that can be verified in multiple steps.
