The primary vertical component of any building is a structural column, which can be placed in a plan or a 3D view.

When placing columns in your building model, you can either place an individual column

or multiple columns at the grid intersections you choose.

On the Structure ribbon, in the Structure panel, click Column.

Expand the Type Selector to see the column types that are available in the project.

Take note that in Revit, structural columns are loadable families.

If needed, you can create different families and types for your project.

Here, select the type of column you want to place.

You can choose to place a Vertical Column or a Slanted Column.

Columns are placed at the current level and extend down to the Depth or Height you specify in the Options Bar.

For this example, select Height, and then set the level to Level 2.

A preview of the column appears under the cursor in the drawing area, and you can click to place the structural column.

If needed, press the SPACEBAR to rotate the column in 90-degree increments before you place it.

To set the number of degrees to rotate the column, before placing it, on the Options Bar, select Rotate after placement.
