Import points and lines from a point cloud in Civil 3D.
Type:
Tutorial
Length:
2 min.
Transcript
00:03
You can use a LandXML file to import point cloud data into Civil 3D.
00:09
This workflow utilizes a multiple-software approach to working with your point cloud data.
00:15
This example shows a point cloud already exported from Recap Pro,
00:20
and then Autodesk Docs was used to extract some points and lines from the point cloud.
00:26
In Civil 3D, the LandXML file can then be imported to bring in the points with their attributes attached, especially the codes.
00:35
These codes are essential to this workflow because Civil 3D knows how to translate them into COGO points in the style that you want.
00:44
The data tree displays each of the major data collections in the LandXML file, such as trees and hydrants.
00:51
If everything is correctly set up, you only have to import the survey data,
00:56
and all your points will have the right look in Civil 3D.
01:01
Again, this is because the LandXML import functionality
01:06
automatically handles the conversion between the units specified in the LandXML file
01:11
and the current drawing units specified in Civil 3D.
01:15
Once you import the points, they will display exactly the way you want.
01:20
Then, you can import the lines from the LandXML or DXF file,
01:25
and most of your drawing is already done without creating anything manually in Civil 3D.
