AutoConstrain leverages AI to simplify the process of defining sketch geometry, making it easier and faster than ever.
The foundation of every great 3D model is a set of robust sketches. Traditional methods of adding constraints and dimensions can be time-consuming.
By leveraging AI, AutoConstrain simplifies this process. AutoConstrain is the companion tool for sketches that helps you define your sketch geometry at any stage of your design. Use it to find those last few missing dimensions or constraints to fully define your sketch. Or to quickly add in that new detail, or as you build sketches from scratch.
You can find this new tool under the new Automate tab in the Sketch environment. AutoConstrain’s AI tools, will help to get your sketch fully constrained, helping you more easily get to robust, fully constrained sketches.
Choose between the options generated by AutoConstrain, or click Generate More, for even more. Once a suggested outcome has been chosen, your result is a fully editable Fusion Sketch.
AutoConstrain’s results are fully customizable. Using the Set Datum tool, lets you set a datum point on the sketch. The new datum will be the start point for the revised dimensioning strategy. If you’d like to tweak the outputs, any constraints or dimensions shown in the previewed results can be deleted, which activates the Refresh button. Refreshed results will replace the deleted constraints and dimensions with new options.
If you’d like to learn more about how the tool works under the hood, take a look at this Autodesk Research article.
Note: If you don’t immediately see AutoConstrain in your toolbar, there’s no need to worry. We’ll be releasing AutoConstrain slowly over the coming weeks. So if you don’t see it today, you should be able to use the functionality very shortly. By adopting a staggered approach, we aim to integrate this AI-powered feature seamlessly into the Fusion ecosystem.
