Working between AutoCAD and Fusion 360? Follow this step-by-step tutorial to learn how to open an AutoCAD DWG file in Fusion 360.
In this Autodesk Fusion 360 Quick Tip, we answer a common question we get from users: how to open an AutoCAD DWG drawing in Fusion 360? Users will notice that, upon opening the AutoCAD DWG file in Fusion 360, nothing displays on the screen. This is because, in AutoCAD, the geometries are in the Sheet tab.
To get the geometries in Fusion 360, when opening the DWG file in AutoCAD, the user must be in the Model tab. So, if you have AutoCAD, using the command export layout, you can create a new DWG where the geometries are in the Model tab. If you don’t have AutoCAD, and you have received the DWG from an external collaborator, ask them to provide you the DWG where the geometries are in the Model tab following the above steps.
Now, if we try to open the new DWG in Fusion 360, the geometries will appear, and we can also use them for creating the 3D model in Fusion 360.
