Not too long ago, programming engraving toolpaths was extremely difficult and time consuming in CAM applications that cost ten’s of thousands of dollars. Typically, engraving text was limited to stick fonts. If someone wanted to engrave an artistic pattern, this would take a whole day to program and several scrap parts of trial and error.
