Ferguson Enterprises is a large wholesale supplier of commercial and residential plumbing services located in Newport News, Virginia. Their facilities management group was expanding, and their facility manager came across a challenge. A small team within their group was working with a general contractor on a project, who was using the Autodesk software PlanGrid. The team had not used PlanGrid before and did not have access to the software.
Project goals
The facility management team at Ferguson Enterprises needed access to PlanGrid so they could work on the project with their customer. The CADD team suggested that they purchase seats of Autodesk Build, which also included access to PlanGrid. In addition to PlanGrid, they would be able to use Autodesk Build for future projects as it grew as a standard within the general contractors and construction industry. The customer purchased seats of Autodesk Build, including access to PlanGrid for their users. Because PlanGrid and Autodesk Build were new to the team, the CADD team recommended they participate in our Autodesk Build Onboarding program, which is conducted by a CADD Microsystems Construction Practice Manager.
Solution
Understanding the needs of the customer, the Practice Manager spoke with the facility manager and the users of the project so that they could begin working on their project right away. During the onboarding program, the Practice Manager reviewed how to sign into Autodesk Build, activate the Unified Platform hub, upload files, assign entitlements, create a project, and how to share files with outside organizations. They also provided a high-level overview of Autodesk Build including sheets, issues, files, forms, photos, RFIs, submittals, meetings, and assets. Additionally, the current need was to understand how to use PlanGrid, so they reviewed how to log in to PlanGrid and how to access their projects.
Business outcome
After completing the Autodesk Build onboarding program, the facility management team at Ferguson was able to access PlanGrid and begin work on the project within that software with the general contractor. Since they purchased Autodesk Build, they also now can win projects with Autodesk Build requirements, and execute any new work within the Autodesk Construction Cloud platform.

In addition to being provided information on how to access the software PlanGrid for an urgent project need, the facility management team is set up for future success with any projects that will utilize PlanGrid or Autodesk Build.
