Guiding Glancy Nicholls Architects to successful BIM Level 2 Accreditation

Guiding Glancy Nicholls Architects to successful BIM Level 2 Accreditation

Customer challenge

Excitech and Glancy Nicholls Architects (GNA) have long had Building Information Modelling (BIM) Level 2 accreditation in their sights for GNA. As a strategic partner, Excitech had already been laying the foundations for GNA when it migrated to Revit in 2011 around the time that the notion of BIM, as a mandatory requirement on government-sponsored projects by 2016, was first announced.

Project goals

When the time came to go for accreditation, whilst much of the groundwork had been done, there was still refinement, recalibration and tightening up of internal processes to take place. First off, GNA had to make the decision as to what type of BIM Level 2 official recognition would be more appropriate.

Solution

Excitech consultants spent two days with GNA, working step-by-step through more than 100 questions involved in the accreditation assessment. This ‘pre-assessment test’ took the form of a gap analysis, designed to identify areas of nonconformity, major and/or minor. As areas for improvement were identified, GNA was able to refine them to ensure alignment with expectations and, therefore, recognised best practice.

Business outcome

Glancy Nicholls Architects is now one of less than 15 Architects nationwide to have achieved full Lloyd’s Register accreditation.

Conclusion

“We view Excitech as our technology partner. They have helped formulate and execute our strategy across many areas over the years, and were a guiding light as we moved into the final stages of readiness for BIM level 2 accreditation. We’ve learned a tremendous amount from their consultants. I think there’s also much more to come." Neil Carter, BIM Lead, Glancy Nicholls Architects.

Symetri Assists JLR to Convert 8 Clay Modellers into Competent Members of the Digital Modelling Team

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) needed to address the imbalance of skill sets within their modelling department without losing the investment in and the experience of the core team. The programme cycle and growth chart indicated that they had the right number of heads to sustain the projected workload but in the wrong disciplines. As the studio is becoming increasingly digital, the resource numbers needed to increase in the CAS team.

Symetri Leverages Accelerator Material for McLaren Resulting in Productivity Boost on Conceptual Design and Improved Cross Department Communications

Using the Alias Subdivision (Sub-D) Modeling Accelerator’s discovery session and engagement approach, Symetri was able to uncover that McLaren had critical challenges they needed to address: • As a result of the Pandemic, McLaren needed to figure out how to do more with their Alias Software with less people in the studio. • They wanted to become more productive leveraging the tools and processes already established in the studio. • Raise core competencies of the team and boost awareness of Alias full set of capabilities – including Subdivisional modeling • Better appreciation of the various modeling paradigms – how they work, what they do, and where they could fit into McLaren’s workflow • Increase prototyping output • Reduce time in the design phase

Working Together to Expand Innovation and Realise Future Vision

Marshall Survey Associates (MSA) are 3D scan and measurement consultants, where accuracy and creativity are critical for customer satisfaction. MSA services cover measured build surveys of light surveys, area reports, topographic surveys, utility surveys, monitoring and visualisation/3D modelling. The challenge for MSA was to equip their team with the best tools and resources to drive the best outcomes for all stakeholders.
