Leveraging Autodesk Civil 3D Training for a Competitive Edge

Leveraging Autodesk Civil 3D Training for a Competitive Edge

Customer challenge

AEC, Inc., a Roswell, GA firm providing planning, civil engineering, and landscape architecture services for nearly 35 years, faced a significant challenge: Keeping up with their competition. On the production side, they recognized the need to learn more about the features of Autodesk Civil 3D and how to implement them to remain competitive in the industry.

“We had been looking for a few months to make the push to start training. We were feeling that, from a production-standpoint, our competition was making bigger strides than us,” said Julie Miller, Vice President at AEC, Inc. Julie is involved in production, client management, and internal CAD standards and policies.

Project goals

  • Gain better understanding of Autodesk Civil 3D: Learn about features included in Autodesk Civil 3D and how to implement them
  • Meet training expectations: Ensure milestones were met as training progressed.

Solution

ATG had initially been AEC’s source for renewing Autodesk software, but after discovering some of ATG’s training materials they decided to look further into training for their team. Working with James Rose (ATG Account Executive), AEC partnered with ATG to receive ‘Beyond the Basics AutoCAD Civil 3D’ training. Led by William Maughan, ATG Civil Technical Specialist, the training was conducted over five months with half-day sessions, focusing on improving their production capabilities. Julie remarked, “I would point out how customizable the training can be and how willing the instructors were to go back and re-show how to do things as the training progressed.” This tailored approach helped the team grasp the intricacies of Autodesk Civil 3D and apply them effectively to their workflows.

Business outcome

After the completion of the training, the production staff at AEC gained a greater understanding of Autodesk Civil 3D and its benefits. The firm now holds bi-weekly meetings to discuss the implementation of new features in their templates and office standards, leading to more efficient workflows. This continuous improvement has empowered AEC to stay competitive and enhance their service offerings.

Conclusion

By partnering with ATG and investing in targeted Autodesk Civil 3D training, AEC, Inc. successfully addressed their production challenges and positioned themselves for future growth. The tailored training program, coupled with the team’s dedication to continuous improvement, has empowered them to streamline workflows, enhance project deliverables, and maintain a competitive edge in the industry.

Implementing a New Platform for Construction

Eckardt Group was founded in 1936 and has been recognized as one of the top electrical contractors in Georgia for the past 80 years. The main challenge EG faced was integrating all data from the BIM side into Autodesk Build and learning how to use Build as their new construction software. They also needed a way to ensure their teams were staying up to date with new features and using the technology to its full capacity.

Connecting VC, Fabrication & Construction Workflows

NOX Innovations is dedicated to helping contractors scale, adapt and maintain their agility in an ever-changing market. Due to company growth, Corbins Electric, the sister company of NOX Innovations, needed a way to bridge gaps and inefficiencies and tie their VC, fabrication and construction workflows together. They were using their own project management software, but it didn’t connect to the cloud and their virtual construction workflows. “We had our own internal project management software that we developed over the years, but it didn’t connect to BIM 360 Docs, model coordination and all the other things we use for the VC side of things,” said Tony Anderson, VC Innovations Specialist. Tony has been with Corbins Electric for 25 years and has worked in the virtual construction department for 10 years.

Helping a Small Firm Stay Ahead of Deadlines

Moyer Design + Build is a small firm that designs and builds custom residential homes from start to finish. Due to team capacity and workload, it was difficult to keep up with technical work. Moyer Design reached out to ATG for production services assistance. “ATG helped facilitate the process and push into construction documents to get a lot of the bulk work done that we didn’t have time for,” said Jeb Moyer, Owner of Moyer Design.
