Okland Construction Finds Success in Autodesk Build

Okland Construction Finds Success in Autodesk Build

Customer challenge

Okland Construction, a general contracting and construction management company, was evaluating software solutions for document management and preconstruction to determine if it would make sense to move away from Procore, their current solution. Having already invested in the Virtual Design and Construction Bundle in Autodesk Construction Cloud, they needed help evaluating other solutions on the platform before making the decision to completely transition from Procore.

Project goals

Okland sought to evaluate the feasibility of switching from Procore to Autodesk Build and initiate the migration process towards the Autodesk Construction Cloud platform.

Solution

The process of vetting Autodesk Construction Cloud across the Okland team required a better understanding of the different solutions available throughout the platform. ATG and Okland began the nearly 8-month process of testing capabilities and addressing concerns around the new workflow.

“Kyle Lee (ATG Construction Solutions Specialist) worked directly with me to understand the difference between forms created from PDFs vs. new forms created in the system. He helped me test and build options to understand data reporting concerns that we needed to take the time to start from scratch,” said Max Nichols, VDC Director at Okland. Nichols is LEED– and CSI–certified and leads Okland’s VDC and Survey department totaling over 30 employees across three offices.

ATG’s comprehensive support extended beyond technical guidance. Throughout the testing process, the ATG team spent several days meeting with Okland, Autodesk, and various stakeholders to discuss how to align Autodesk Construction Cloud with the team’s specific needs.

Nichols added, “They constantly brought value to the conversations, accommodated meetings, and even assisted in testing certain conditions we had around a new workflow. They were a major reason why we were able to land on moving away from Procore to Autodesk Build.”

Business outcome

Although Okland is still in the implementation phase, they have already seen immense value from Autodesk Construction Cloud, and it has encouraged them to seek improvements across all departments rather than focusing solely on individual teams.

With the help of James Foster, ATG Account Rep, Okland has been able to establish a strong foundation for their team not only through construction software, but reality capture, visualization, and many others.

“Although I considered looking at other Autodesk partners, once I met James I chose not to. He is extremely helpful, timely, and fair. James is why I started working with ATG and a large part of why I will continue to.”

Conclusion

The collaboration between Okland and ATG has evolved into a strategic partnership. What began as a focused initiative within Okland’s VDC department has expanded to encompass the entire organization.

"I feel ATG has created a partnership with Okland. Not just a company who sells us stuff. Although the Okland VDC group had a strong relationship with ATG for a few years, all of Okland now has one. I was already a big fan of ATG and will continue to be one if the level of service, support, and our strong partnership continues to grow."

Implementing a New Platform for Construction

Eckardt Group was founded in 1936 and has been recognized as one of the top electrical contractors in Georgia for the past 80 years. The main challenge EG faced was integrating all data from the BIM side into Autodesk Build and learning how to use Build as their new construction software. They also needed a way to ensure their teams were staying up to date with new features and using the technology to its full capacity.

Connecting VC, Fabrication & Construction Workflows

NOX Innovations is dedicated to helping contractors scale, adapt and maintain their agility in an ever-changing market. Due to company growth, Corbins Electric, the sister company of NOX Innovations, needed a way to bridge gaps and inefficiencies and tie their VC, fabrication and construction workflows together. They were using their own project management software, but it didn’t connect to the cloud and their virtual construction workflows. “We had our own internal project management software that we developed over the years, but it didn’t connect to BIM 360 Docs, model coordination and all the other things we use for the VC side of things,” said Tony Anderson, VC Innovations Specialist. Tony has been with Corbins Electric for 25 years and has worked in the virtual construction department for 10 years.

Helping a Small Firm Stay Ahead of Deadlines

Moyer Design + Build is a small firm that designs and builds custom residential homes from start to finish. Due to team capacity and workload, it was difficult to keep up with technical work. Moyer Design reached out to ATG for production services assistance. “ATG helped facilitate the process and push into construction documents to get a lot of the bulk work done that we didn’t have time for,” said Jeb Moyer, Owner of Moyer Design.
