Utilization of Autodesk 3D Products for Project

Utilization of Autodesk 3D Products for Project

Customer challenge

Tata Steel wanted to introduce and transit to 3D Platform with Autodesk World Class Technologies in their Design Engineering Team | Project Engineering Department | Production Engineering Team | Detailing as they had a good license base of Autodesk Product Design & Manufacturing Industry Collection and Autodesk Architecture, Engineering & Construction Industry Collection. 1) Design Engineering Team and other Stakeholders were into 2D AutoCAD with usage of AutoCAD Mechanical Library; now with inclusion of PDMC IC, transition to a connected workflow was required to reap the investment of Industry Collection that was procured under M2S Switching Policy from Autodesk. 2) As all these Departments were working out as a standalone entity, coordination and interoperability was a big problem on working on Single Project, further design iterations, Project lag time, slowing down of deliverables, managing definite timeline on Project Data and other issues in the Design Engineering process.

Project goals

1) Introduce BIM concept with workflow usage of Revit, Plant 3D, Civil 3D, and Infraworks for Greenfield / Brownfield / Construction Part; also, deep insights of Plant Layout, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams, Plant Buildings Design & Documentation, and Visualization Walk-Through. 2) Utilization of Inventor Professional for 3D Mechanical design in various Design & Engineering Departments with BOQ creation, coordination with Production Manufacturing, Layout Design using AutoCAD Mechanical and Inventor Professional. 3) Coordination and hand-shaking of Design Engineering Team, Project Engineering Team, Production Engineering Team, Detailing and introduction of PDMC IC - Vault Professional: Central location for design data, Data Search, Single Step Design reuse, Check-In and Check-Out, Security Control, Data – Securing your Intellectual Property and Engineering Change Orders. 4) Detailed use of Navisworks Manage for Virtual Construction, Clash Detection and Virtual Reality.

Solution

To reach these goals, Trisita Engineering needed wise evaluation of Autodesk 3D tools from different divisions. We had technical discussions including technical demonstration, and regular technical workshops to impart project level training for respective departments. We aimed to implement regular onsite and web training of Autodesk Inventor Professional for Design Engineers of various departments. After successful training completion of Autodesk 3D Products, now design and engineering teams are making more utilization of Autodesk Inventor Professional for their new projects and for Equipment Design Modeling. They have started using Autodesk Inventor Professional (in this segment, customer was using only CreO).

Business outcome

There are various business outcomes by implementing this project: 1) Ongoing technical discussions and demonstrations of our 3D offering and workflow presentation. 2) Regular Technical Workshops to be carried out for various divisions as per project requirement. 3) Better utilization of Autodesk Products from central ITS Server.

Conclusion

TRISITA Engineering implemented technical workshops for Autodesk 3D tools. After implementation of this project, TATA STEEL Design & Engineering teams can now use Inventor Professional and other 3D tools from Autodesk for their project work.

Making utilization of Autodesk Products for Design & Engineering Departments

Exide Industries wants to implement proper PDM for R&D Design Engineering Department and thereafter PLM integrating multiple Disciplines so that R&D Design Engineering Department can coordinate and sync with Production Engineering Department @ Plant Locations. Challenge is there as they are using multiple Autodesk CAD Technologies for 3D Prototyping / Modelling for various Automotive OEM’s. Layout Design with connected workflow for managing existing brownfield and upcoming greenfield project, presently they are into 2D Layout Design. Provide Executives & Management a real time, High-Level Overview of all active projects and improve tracking. Technology Upgrade of CNC Programming s/w as presently as they are using old version competitive CNC Programming s/w, in relevance, require more input on Faster Operation with more precision – Collision Checking – Steep & Shallow – Model Filleting – Area Clearance – others
