Founded in 1964 in Shreveport, Louisiana, Gordon, Inc. has grown to over 175 employee-owners with a state-of-the-art 255,000-square-foot facility and a global network of 70+ independent agents. The issue faced by Spire Collective was that the current PLM system was outdated and did not allow for proper process control between different departments within the company. A system was needed that could be adapted to the existing workflow, rather than having the system dictate operational methods. Concerns arose about the large amount of data, perceived as difficult and time-consuming to transfer to a new system, causing hesitation in adopting a new solution. The Bill of Materials (BOM) management in the old system was so cumbersome that it was essentially unused, leading to data being dispersed across multiple pieces of software and compromising data integrity.

WJ Higgins had a long-standing customer who expressed a need for a quicker and more innovative methodology for the design and manufacturing of their construction components. As a result of their customer’s necessity, WJ Higgins began to examine what, of their current design and manufacturing procedures, might be changed or upgraded in ways that could enhance their ability to both accelerate and produce more advanced deliverables for their customer. Considering their long-term “tried and true” processes and design tools, they consulted with TeamD3 seeking assistance in identifying more efficient ways of leveraging their Autodesk software tools. “Glass envelope systems,” are often used for much of the exterior façade of high-rise building structures.
