"Autodesk Revit ... is already installed." when attempting to install the program (or an update to) Revit 2021 or newer version

Issue:

Example:

When attempting to install the program (or an update to) Revit 2021 or a newer version, a message like the following appears:


Autodesk Revit 2021 is already installed.

Autodesk Revit 20xx is already installed

Depending on the installation media used, the following Install Wizard is presented:
Revit 2021 is detected as already installed but it will not launch / cannot be found on the system
 
 

Causes:

  • Remnant files from a previous installation. 

Solution:

Microsoft Install troubleshooter

The following Microsoft trouble-shooter can be used to help with situations like this:
  1. Download Microsoft Uninstall Troubleshooter
  2. Launch it and select Next > Uninstalling.
  3. If Revit shows up in the list, select it.
    1. If Revit does not show up, select Not Listed.
    2. Paste the appropriate value below for the Product Code: 
2021: {7346B4A0-2100-0510-0000-705C0D862004}
2022: {7346B4A0-2200-0510-0000-705C0D862004}
2023: {7346B4A0-2300-0510-0000-705C0D862004}
  1. Click Next. Wait until the process is completed.
  2. Retry the Revit installation.

    Manually clear registry keys

    If you can't download/run the Microsoft troubleshooter, or if it isn't working for you, try clearing the Revit registry keys manually:
    1. Open the Windows Registry (Start > type regedit > press ENTER).
    2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\.
    3. Find the appropriate key below:
    • For Revit 2021: {7346B4A0-2100-0510-0000-705C0D862004}
    • For Revit 2022: {7346B4A0-2200-0510-0000-705C0D862004}
    • For Revit 2023: {7346B4A0-2300-0510-0000-705C0D862004}
    1. Right-click on the key and select "Rename".
    2. Append .old at the end of the key. For example, with 2023, it would be {7346B4A0-2300-0510-0000-705C0D862004}.old.
    3. Retry the Revit installation.

        Reinstall Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Libraries

        If the steps above are not clearing the issue, try reinstalling the Visual C++ Runtime Libraries:
        1. Follow the steps in the article How to remove and reinstall Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Libraries
        2. Retry the Revit installation.
