Issue:

The following message appears when trying to generate a 2D Profile ((water/laser/plasma) toolapth in Fusion 360.

Error: Internal CAM Kernel Error.
or
Error: CAM Kernel died unexpectedly.

Causes:

One potential cause for this error is having all the heights set to the same plane (with respect to the Z-axis) and the cutter compensation set to "In Control."

Solution:

Work through the following solutions:
  • Change the cutter compensation type to "In Computer".
  • Add a positive offset to either the Clearance or Retract heights. This will allow the tool to retract upwards for non-cutting moves, which may result in a safer toolpath.
  • Reset the preferences to default.
