Issue:

Maya on the Mac will not start up as a client and there is a -12 licensing error. You have confirmed the the network license server has been set up properly as noted in the Maya documentation.

Solution:

You need to add the network license file into the /var/flexlm folder. The /var/flexlm directory needs the following 2 files:

  • adsk_server.lic = file from the license server
  • maya.lic =  file that is created using the licensing wizard
  1. In the Finder, click Go > Go to Folder and enter:
/var/flexlm
  1. Drag the adsk_server.lic into the flexlm folder.  You will be prompted for your Administrator password.

This issue can also occur if DNS is not resolving the license server name to the correct IP address.  In this case, you can open the /var/flexlm/maya.lic file and change the server name to the server IP address.
