Issue:

  • How to access and download previous copies of Revit cloud models or cloud workshared models?
  • How to access a backup and restore the model from an earlier time?
  • If the model was not published for some time, is there a backup on the cloud?

Solution:

Revit 2023 and later versions:

See the following help topic for information on the new non-destructive restore feature for cloud models introduced in Revit 2023: View and Restore an Earlier Version of a Cloud Model

Revit 2022.1 and later versions:

See the following help topic for information on this new feature introduced in Revit 2022.1:
View and Open an Earlier Version of a Cloud Model

Note: To save a local copy of the earlier version model use the Save As command.

Restore previously synced versions in Manage Cloud Models

  1. Within Revit (when a cloud model is open or when no models are open) click Collaborate > Manage Cloud Models.
  2. Navigate through the account and project to the model name.
  3. Hover over the model and click Actions > View Versions.
Manage Cloud models dialog and restore option in Revit
Notes:
  • Restoring a previous version will permanently delete all versions synced later than the selected version.
  • All team members should be notified to save changes elsewhere.
  • Team members with these local models won’t be able to use any worksharing function. You can use Save As to save the file, which will then allow the ability to reinitiate cloud worksharing.

Restore Local Backup

The locally cached copy of the model could be used as a backup. See the following article for information on How to find the local copies of Revit Cloud Workshared files.

Notes:
  • File names in the collaboration cache are stored based on the Model GUIDs and not the file names.
  • Restoring a local backup will not maintain any of the previous versions of the existing cloud model.

Download the published version from the cloud

Notes:
  • This will only download published versions of the model.
  • Restoring a downloaded copy of the cloud model will not maintain any of the previous versions of the existing cloud model.
