Crash in Revit 2024.1 after model upgrade

Issue:

Users reported that when upgrading multiple models with Revit 2024.1 in one session, a crash occurs while saving, using transfer project standards, or with other operations on elements that contain schema entities

Status:

This incident is being investigated for a possible cause and resolution.

Additional Information:

  • This error happens when the upgraded models contain the same schema entities.
  • Schemas are loaded into memory with the model, and remain after the model is closed.

Workaround:

If you are using 2024.1 and want to upgrade files that were created in previous versions, follow these steps below to avoid a crash:
  1. Launch a fresh session of Revit 2024.1.
  2. Upgrade models/families from one prior version (e.g. 2022->2024).
  3. Save,
  4. Close Revit.
  5. Repeat steps 1-4 until all files from all prior versions are are upgraded.
