How to create multiple lines of code with Pass Through Manual NC in Inventor CAM or HSMWorks

Issue:

The entry dialogue box for Pass Through Manual NC commands is a single line and it's not possible to tab/enter to the next line. A way to create multiple lines of code in the Pass Through entry method of Manual NC is needed in Inventor CAM or HSMWorks. 

Causes:

HSMWorks and Inventor CAM only show a single dialogue line for pass through Manual NC operations.  Fusion 360 has multiple lines of dialogue for Pass Through and does not need this solution. 

Solution:

NOTE: This function is not always included in the stock Autodesk Post Processors by default because manually entering code can result in machine crashes. Be careful when using manual code entry to ensure that machine collisions will not be caused by the manually entered code.


To create a Manual NC function that outputs multiple lines of G-code:

  • When entering code manually in the message field, you can separate lines with commas.
  • For example, entering: G90 G00 Z10, X0 Y0, M00 will give the following after post processing:
G90 G00 Z10
X0 Y0
M00
